"GILS" plaque on Big Trout....

I posted this at the tail end of Markus' White Trout Pic post... And I just brought it out since I've been wondering about it for a few years now...

Question for all.... Has anyone seen the "GILS" metal sign/plaque bolted to a shoreline rockface?

It's about 4x6" as I recall. It's relatively new (last 5-10 years) I'd guess.

I don't want to give an exact location as it may be a memorial marker.

Park Memorials

I have not seen the GILS plaque but I have come across other memorials in my travels. This one is located in-camp on a prominent lake. Obviously the person being honored shared some special times with his surviving comrades fishing and camping Algonquin's interior. It is a good reminder of what is valuable in life.

The GILS plaque is not as elaborate.

Hey Carl,

I have not seen this plaque u speak of, however, despite it being bolted to rocks, it is likely put there by unofficial means (e.g. without Park sanction - no MNR or other logo stamped into it?). I don't know the Park's policy on this, but I would assume, if this is the case, that it is there illegally . That may help explain the lack of info about this particular memorial.

Try calling one of the Gate staff directly, you may have better luck with them.

I'm not concerned about it as much as I am curious about the story behind it. I know that there are other memeorials in the park, I was interested in this one as its not elaborate and bends in well with its surroundings.
