Let the melting begin!!

According to the weather network's website forecast for Whitney, Ontario...

Short Term Forecast
MondayEvening 5°C, rain
Monday Overnight 7°C, rain
Tuesday Morning 9°C, rain
Tuesday Afternoon 9°C, cloudy with showers

From Monday Evening to Tuesday Afternoon we expect 15-20 mm of rain.

Attention snow: you're days are numbered! Soon you will be liquid swelling streams, rivers and lakes thereby forcing the ice to retreat! Some snow may be permitted to form small pools that allow insect populations to swell thereby fattening up the trout population.

Ice B Gone...

March 31 2008, 6:59 PM

Love it!!!

Keep them rains comming strong!
This week will do a lot to get things started but...I'd sure like to see a bit more rain and above normal temperature Values in the 14 day trend for Petawawa

It looks like there are some nice Temps above 1 & 2 degrees, but the norm is 7 degrees.
I'm booked off to be in the Park for the opener...
I'd like to keep my travel plans as is

Might have to get and do a little rain dance each night before bed LOL!

Crocuses blooming, crocuses blooming!

Boy-howdy, it's WINDY!!!!

It's amazing how fast everything has been melting today.

And apparently I own a water-front house now.

Well, a water-surrounded house would be more accurate.

Anyone want to go for a little ww playboating? The water is flowing fast and furious between my house and the neighbour's, even got a miniature set of rapids going. LOL

No snow left on my yard here on Lake Erie.
I found it funny PaPaddler ( American ) using Celcius and Barbara, I think Canadian using Fairenheit. Just a little backwards.

Paddlin,

It's always weird for me to use Celcius but I am getting more used to it over time. I'm glad the Canadian weather website now has a toggle between metric and english so I don't have to take the extra time to noodle it through each time I look at it!

I try to post in metric on a mostly Canadian site, although my last post was in inches since the request from Sean had measurements in inches. Barbara's just suffering the ill effects of cabin fever and will likely resume metric posts after ice-out!

I'll say it's going quick, this morning I parked on top of a couple of inches of ice and packed snow, 8 hrs later the van was sitting on pavement.

Farenheit to Celcius

April 1 2008, 5:10 PM

How tough can it be?
(F-32) * 5/9 = C
You can do it in your head.

I think older Canadians who weren't brought up with metric still find it hard to convert. My father in law wants nothing to do with metric at all. Even though it really is easier. I'm not suggesting you're older Barbara. lol

Dwight 14 day weather forcats

April 3 2008, 10:14 PM

Dwight's weather pattern is looking fantastic also!

Every day is forecasted to be around the seasonal norm of plus 9, with the next 10 days above that! Can anyone say "Melt Water?"

http://www.theweathernetwork.com/fourteenday/caon0203

FYI, Lake Oudaze (just west of the park)) is no longer safe to cross, and all the fishing huts are long gone. Nothing but slush under the snow.

The 25th is looking "ice free"

old enough

April 4 2008, 1:27 AM

I was one of those "betweens"...caught between struggling to envision how many pecks in a bushel, then needing to switch to metric. Neither system stuck very well.

so, yeah...older than some, younger than others...i'm in-between again!

LOL

"Double it and add 30" or "half it and subtract 30" is my way of converting. Cheers Tom

Careful What You Wish For....

April 4 2008, 9:40 AM

Of course, all that rain here in the Southern Georgian Bay area was not necessarily a good thing....huge flooding, and the high winds snapped a tower in the main feeder corridor, meaning that we were without power for about 6 hours.
Luckily, I was able to rush out and snap up a generator to plug my sump pump into before I needed to paddle in my basement.

Tis True

April 4 2008, 9:49 PM

Yep! It's true the snow is slowly releasing us from its wintery grip. Saw some grass today. With the forcast for the next five days Spring is in the air.

Cheers, Ben from The Wolf Den

Ice Update

April 5 2008, 12:38 PM

I was on the phone with the people at Langford Canoes in Dwight yesterday, and they reported that they had dug a hole in the ice at Canoe Lake yesterday that was still 2' deep!!
While they noted that that was only down by about 4" over their last weeks dig they felt that with the recent rain, and this weekends forecast, the melt is going to greatly speed up! I'll call him back next week, and post what I find out.
