Looking for a 3 day trip to Alqonquin

I am new to this forum and find this site quite useful.
I am looking for a suggestion for a 3 day trip to Alqonquin. There will be 4 canoes (8 people with 4 tents). All have good tripping skills. We will be tripping the first week of May. Are there sites available that would accomodate 8 people with 4 tents?

hi Pat,

Welcome to the AA forum!
Can you give us an access point that you might be interested in launching from?

Without that detail...anyone could send you anywhere really!
Keep in mind that there is a limit of 3 tents per campsite.
This limit is for the reason of campsite preservation, to prevent erosion.

Off the top off my head;

Access#1 North Tea Lake, Manitou Lake has some nice big sites
Access#2 Don't know it well enough
Access#3 Ralph Bice has some nice sites, as well as Misty Lake
Access#4 Rain Lake has some large sites and is a nice lake too!
Access#5 Tom Thomson, McIntosh, Big Trout Lake, Joe Lake, Burnt Island Lake, all have some sites that are quite big

and so on....

First....
what access point are you thinking of?

Second.....
if you don't have a Canoe Routes Map, you can do a quick browse at the "Trip Logs" section, found on the homepage here on AA http://www.algonquinadventures.com/ just in case you bypassed it in getting here to the message board part.

There's a visual there that will show you roughly where the access points are, in addition to the trip logs.

Third.....
y'all been to Algonquin before or not?

And D....
4 tents on one site? Maybe, maybe not...depends on the lake(s). I've seen sites that you would need a shoehorn to get one tent to fit, never mind 4.

and finally....
Welcome to AA. The best, the only "All Algonquin" site you will ever need.

I'd take water taxi across Opeongo as you don't have a lot of time
in doing a 3 day trip.

This gets you to a jumpoff point from which decent lakes can be reached
by mid afteernoon.

Because of 4 tents I'd suggest that you look for adjacent campsites
to avoid encountering an unwanted vist ( max 3 tents per site)

IMHO
I'd try the following areas
Happy Isle, Proulx or Little Crow

Perhaps better would be to just pick a NorthArm basecamp (ajacent sites)
and then daytrip from there

Thanks for the info
I have been looking at access 6,4,17,3.
I was not aware of the 3 tent rule. I was hoping we could all stay on the same campsite.
Is the Park real fussy about the 3 tent rule. Do they mention it at the time of booking?
We have not been to Algonquin before and are really looking forward to it.
The water taxi sounds like a cool idea but I think we will pass on that for this trip.
Is the 1st of May busy or will we have a good choice of campsites?
Are there a lot of fisherman in the park this time of year.
