Always keep your campsite and yourself free of attracting odours....food, fish, etc...

You'll just have to grin and "bear" it. (It's funnier spelled this way)

Yeh, you wouldn't want your trip to be bruined.

Don’t cook right in camp, hang food pack (aprox 25m outside camp), Wash without soap, brush teeth in the morning only, and hide under the covers at night.

buy a whistle or better yet a air horn from canadian tire. ($25.00) the m.n.r from chapleau (ontario`s da black bear capital) told me get one of these. da bears will not hang around after a short blast from one of these babies.
as you walk the trails, talk, whistle make noise eh! even a good fart will work. da bears will scram along with your paddling partner, you should always have a slower runner as a partner then ourself!! when in doubt stay home.da bears are very stealth like creatures. you could of already had one go through your camp at night and not know it, unlike a moose with it`s hooves!

Keep site clean and hang food. Don't wash dishes at your camp site. Go back in to woods a bit. If you don't give them something to eat they won't come near you. I have camped there countless times and I have not seen a bear as I keep the site VERY clean.
And if you are worried about them now, get ear plugs for when you sleep. Otherwise everything you hear at night will be a bear.

As for Bears on Portage
Please leave the bears alone
better you wack your buddy on the knee with your paddle if you are worried about any bear encounters.. That way at least you can keep you buddy between you and any bears
