Anyone know if ice is out on Opeongo yet? I know ice is out on most other lakes; however, i know that as of Friday, Opeongo was still solid.

Thanks!

Yesterday a warden(?) told us @ the Rock L access that Opeongo still had ice..

Btw AO said to call their Opeongo store for info on iceout if you want.

Yikes! The forecast for this week, with highs in single digits and lows well below freezing are not boding well. Opeongo may not clear until the weekend.

The last update on the Park's website

As of Friday, April 25, 2008 (as of 2:00 p.m.):

5. Lakes which are ice-bound --- not likely to go out this weekend; there are no leads (breaks in the ice) across the centre that would assist with break-up by wind:

Big Trout, Happy Isle, Hogan, La Muir, Lavieille, Opeongo, Ralph Bice, White Partridge, White Trout.

At least if it is gone by the next weekend
then our May 7 trip into Big T will be without problems

I guess we will confirm with AO just to be sure on Monday 5 May 2008

From Gordon Baker of Al Outfitters

April 28 2008, 1:44 PM

This just in.

As the park's report from Friday has indicated, most small to medium sized lakes in Algonquin Park are open. As of 3 pm today (Sunday, April 27), you could get as far as the East Arm Narrows. Currently the North Arm and East Arm are inaccessible by boat. After wind and rain yesterday, plus more wind today. Conditions are changing hourly.

If you are going to Opeongo Lake this week, the best way to get an up-to-the-minute report is to call our Opeongo Store directly: 1-888-280-8886.

Barbara,
Your Yogi Berra quote was done by, well, Yogi. Mine is attributed to my Pa.

Another of Yogi's, maybe suitable to the AA folks, is, "You got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there. "

Hope this hleps.

What the Dickens?

April 28 2008, 11:16 PM

We have all some experience of a feeling, that comes over us occasionally, of what we are saying and doing having been said and done before, in a remote time – of our having been surrounded, dim ages ago, by the same faces, objects, and circumstances – of our knowing perfectly what will be said next, as if we suddenly remember it.

C. Dickens, David Copperfield, Ch. 39.
