Perhaps someone out there can answer this question: Is there another access point beside no.1 that gives you handy access to Craig Lake? I realize that you can do the many portages north from access 2 to reach Craig but a friend of mine remembered going into Craig and only portaging 3-4 times. The Mussio Venture Algonquin Region Backroad Mapbook shows a putin where the South River meets Craig Creek, could this be possible? If this is correct could you provide details on parking etc. (I assume one gets the permit at the Kawawaymog Lake Access Point Office still?).

On the backroads map there is a 200 meter portage to get to the lake nahma from a continuation of the road to #1. I have not gone there and I don't know the condition of the road. It is not an acsess site and don't know if you can park there overnite

Harry, this isn't directed at you since I know you'll be parking outside the park border and portaging in, but to everyone else... remember it is STRICTLY ILLEGAL to operate an wheeled device on a non-designated road in Algonquin Park.
