Yes AM it was a nice lake. Too bad we had such crappy weather for most of it. I always forgot to take pics of the fish. Never had my camera in the boat.

Thanks Markus. Yes sir, more pics in June...definately. spcially after the photography course your going to give me when we meet up.

Thanks Bo. You sure were right about the fishing. Any other little goldmines you care to share with me?

P.S. I think I noted it in the trip log, but the campsite is located on the opposite side of the lake as noted on the canoe routes map. There wasn't even a sign that the camp was ever where the map has it. The was an old camp at the end of the portage though, complete with thunder box.

Nice Trip Log

June 3 2008, 10:36 AM

Hey Canoeguy ...

Thanks for the great trip log. It looks like you and your kids had a nice time dispite the weather. I was wondering what size canoe you have, and the seating you used with you and the kids on board? Did you do you in the back, oldest in the front and 2 in the middle, seperated by gear?

Again, thaks for sharing!

Lantern Lake

Hello Canoeguy,

Nice trip log, despite the rain it looks and sounds like you had a very good trip. I think it takes a special kind of guy to take your kids on trips such as you did. The memories and lessons will last a life time, for all involved.

Well done!

Hey Jeff P. That's exactly it. I had to even out the weight as much as I could. I was still 5-6 inches over the water line with all of the weight. We were a bit cramped with all of the packs, but w didn't really have far to travel this way. Fishing was a lot easier. Next year we are planning a loop for our spring trip, so I will probably have to rent a second canoe and have Meaghen and Kevin in that one while Trystan is with me. Oh ya, the canoe is a 16'- 6" Portage Wapizagonk rated at 800 lbs.

Coach: Thanks a bunch. This was the 1st year with the whole crew. I'm pretty sure I hooked Trystan with the fact that he caught his first fish ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th fish). I want him to see his first moose, so next year I think it will be the other side of the park for a change. I want to get into the interior more.

P.S.: Since buying my new camera , I have yet to see a moose in the park. Do you suppose the camera is bad luck?

Yup, canoeguy I have lots of little gems stored in my tiny head.

Just let me know where you are going, and I'll tell you the lakes to fish!

Alright. You asked for it.

I'll be in the Carl Wilson area with Markus in June and then into Wendigoes (off of Cedar).

Then in September I'm planning a trip into North River and Merganzer.

Canoeguy:

I don't know about June, but in May the following are dynamite lakes for trout.

Carl Wilson area eh??? Loxley very good for specks.....uphill portage.
Carl Wilson is also good for lakers and specks, but more lakers. Then, at bottom of Carl Wilson, you have Varley, Camp Five, Glacier and Gull....all excellent speck lakes. Wendigoes....never fished it and don't know what's in it.

North River area.....don't bother fishing Merganser. North River.....fish the area between island upon entering laker and shoreline....good here for specks and a fish that looks like a whitefish which goes about 2 lbs.
