Just returned from ther park, I really dont see what all the fuss is about,I have about 3 bug bites for the weekend. I was prepared for the worst, but very surprised by the lack of bugs. CBC you are so wrong.

Great to hear that the "bug free zone" is working in Algonquin. They should have more areas where bugs are not allowed to go!!

Figures. So I would have been safer in Algonquin than in Simcoe County?

Got chewed by mosquitoes on Saturday in Oro. Squadrons of them. argh

Yes , the bugs are worse at my buddies farm in Harriston. We were extremly lucky for the bugs, however the lightning and wind storms were another thing. almost a repeat of the Tornado we experienced 2 falls ago.
"If a tree falls in the forest does anyone hear?"......YES, and it sure ticks off all the birds around too.

The bugs were pretty bad up on the Bruce Peninsula as well. Black flies, skitters and deer flies were brutal.

OT but the crows were also killing each other? Anyone ever hear if this happening before? I was in the bush and they were dropping like flies from being attacked.

Crows

Cls,

Do you mean the crows were dropping down dead?
I know that West Nile virus kills off crows but I've never heard of crows attacking and killing each other.

West Nile and crows

to see them drop dead would certainly be something.

glad to hear the bugs weren't so bad. how much longer does one anticipate black fly season to extend?

the birds

It was something... I was listening to more than a dozen of them squawking in the cedar forest beside my cottage. Went up to investigate and thought I'd at least spook them, they kept circling and squawking, I heard a thud and saw one coming at me from above, it was dead before it hit the ground, beside the other one. They were both still warm and bloody and full of peck holes. Very bizarre indeed. Then the rest flew away. I don't know about crow behavior but I was wondering if it was a territorial thing, or maybe they did something to make the other ones mad? I would be very interested in knowing what happened.

If I found the 2 crows dead I would have brought them to the MNR to be checked for west nile.
