Planning a trip from Acray campground through Barron Canyon. Where is the water slide everyone goes to? Is High Falls and "the Cascades" the same place. Should we plan to allow a full day for the water slide.Where is the best place for the take out and is it easy to get a shuttle back. How far from take out point back to Acray campground.Has anyone drop off a bike at take out and rode back to Acray campground.Any suggestions for good campsites? Will time from Sunday to Thursday be long enough for this trip?
Thanks for any help.

The waterslide is on the north east corner of Stratton Lake and is marked as High Falls.
Yes I would plan a whole day there!
We got out at squirrel rapids. We had left a vehicle there.
Sunday to Thursday should be plenty of time.
Read our triplog on this site (if you havent already)

Can I get to it if camped at 550 portage going from Stratton Lake to High Falls Lake?

Moodyblue,
If you are leaving from Achray - Grand Lake, you don't have to portage to get to the waterslides, you 'park' your canoe on Stratton and it's a couple of minutes walk. You'll see the canoes lined up!

My error ... there is one tiny 30m portage from Grand to Stratton.

Sorry, I meant the 550 portage from St. Andrews to High Falls Lake.

I don't think there's a way to get to the waterslide from there; it's accessed from Stratton Lake. If you are leaving from Grand Lake the next lake you will paddle is Stratton.

No you cant get to it from there without a considerable hike! You should camp on Stratton for the day if possible.

IMHO... Camp on St Andrews instead on Stratton :-)

Nicer sites on St Andrews IMHO ( very easy short portage between Stratton and St Andrews )

BTW: St Andrews at least offers TROUT as a possible catch

Also base on St Andrews makes a side trip to Marie easy

You have to go thru St Andrews anyways to get to Barron Canyon
so plan accordingly..

Sites on Stratton are just too close together for my liking
and overly used

My 2 cents

St. Andrews is where we camped too. WE just day tripped back to the High Falls area for the day/ I agree that this is the best lake to stay on overnight.

Has any one tripped from Achray car campground to Squirrel Rapids and back to Achray in 4 days? We want to go from:
Day one : Achray to Stratton lake
Day two : spend day at waterslide
Day three : canoe to Squirrel rapids and back to Opalscent Lake camp for night
Day Four : canoe all way back to Achray

Easy pace

Yes, many of us on this forum have done this and compared notes. You'll find it to be an easy going pace over 4 days.

If you do a search through old posts you'll get more info on your route.

Does anyone know the driving time from Toronto to the Achray campground and best way to get there from Toronto?

It's about six hours of driving from TO and the way I went was 400, 11, 60, 62 and then across on a local road to the access road (can't remember the road name there).
