Jeff:

Well, yes sort of!!!

I tried to get there once from Opeongo but eventually ran out of water in Hailstorm Creek. I think I made it only half way there. Mind you, this was in August on an Opeongo day with nothing else to do and I was tired of looking at bikinis!!!!

I have never been but have heard from a couple of sources that you can not paddle the whole way even in high water. Expect beaver dams along the way. i would be very interested in hearing back from you if you make it there.
PM me at ielford@execulink.com and I will give you some info that might add to your motivation.

Yea, my map shows an old ~1000m portage between the creek and the marsh before the lake, ~600m to Crossbill L and then ~2000 to Burnt Island.. Alternatively from Crossbill you could go down the North Madawaska to Sa-Sa-Je-Wun L, take the trail over to Broadwing L, over to Longspur L and then bushwack the old portage over to Canisbay.

If you are physically fit you could try going in via Blackfox Lake and portage over from there.

Hmmmm

A lot of work for sure and
likely thats why "Fools Lake" would be found first
coming in that way

Perhaps an easier hike in might be considered starting from
the Little OtterSlides. Good reference points ( aka creeks)
and to boot it would be shorter and doable there and back in a day

Creeks and Lakes east of red route would limit your wanderings if you went off course and allow yo to find the lake regardless of any reoreination required enroute ( you notice I didn't say "lost" )

P.S. It's not a BORN trait ...ask BK to get lost wandering thru
the woods !!!

P.P. S. I'm sure there are great many catches waiting to be caught in such lakes

There are many old and not so old logging roads in that area and all can be used as a part of access to the desired lakes with little bushwacking.
You just have to get some arial photos to locate them since they are not on the usual maps.

Hmmmm......what Mel said gave me an idea......

check out the topo at http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/site/english/index.html

Type Hailstorm Lake ON in the search box, then do some zoom-zooming.

Follow the trail if you are intent

Ingnore my last advice about bush-wacking

Although bushwacking would be shorter
you may end up wet due to marshes

But the choice is your if you are intent on
going to Hailstorm Lake

Happy Hiking

I have been frustrated by the NRCan make your own map crap ink I had
but that link you provided is SOLID GOLD

****You rock Barabara*****

And I am not just saying that because your
chq finally arrived today

So where is InnisFil ( is in in North America ? )
I've had emails from foreign lands (e.g. China/Mexico)
almost arrived quicker than mail from Innisfil

Perhaps the resealed envelop is a clue indicating
that your postmaster/mistress is potential a spy!

Just Joking
Looking fwd to actually meeting you some day
