Always wanted to enhance/expand my experiences and as such
I am planning for 2009 already

On my 2009 list

(easiest to most desireable)

Kiosk Cabin base camp and lots of trippin/fish'n with Bro's
and/or invited guests

White Water level II aka Petawawa river is calling me

Perhaps we could set up a possible training/lets do it
trip with somebody like BlackFeather outfitting ( many others also
possible and perhaps some kind sould in AA might volunteer to
be our less expense guide/trainer (knowing that all attendees have done
due diligence before and are ready

* How much canoeing experience do you need to enjoy the Petawawa River trip?
* You should know your basic strokes and manoeuvres, a bit about river
reading and rescues and know what to do if you capsize.
* The first timer should consider a clinic or easy river before trying the Petawawa.

Woo-Who
In the spring there may be a lot of water resulting in big waves, holes
and fast pushy water. The water is cold in May if I remember correctly (n'est pas).

Maybe this should be an August 2009 event
( Would allow lots of time to save $$ and prepare)
In August I am sure that we could easily do this on our own
( hopefully with some more WW experienced AA'ers and mentors attending)
rather than fork out $695 for the outfitter but then again it is all inclusive with the outfitter except for:
medivac,
weather delays
and
of course
Any additional expenses resulting from the delayed departure and any
costs incurred as a result of delays to the trip
caused by factors beyond our control i.e. wind, forest fires, high water, etc.
Oooops ...they forgot to specifically mention nuclear strike or tornadoes and an exclusion

Kayaking the Baja ( sweetheart goes to Playa del Carmen and I go Kayaking
( That would be ideal plan and I can always join up at Playa for a few
days of recovery afterwards

Info at: http://www.blackfeather.com/kayak/kayak_bajaquickescape.htm

Dog Sledding ( in AP of course )

or
when somebody donates Beaucoup d'argent to yours truly
Dogsledding in Greenland

It doesn't cost to dream...
and dreamers are likely the people one one day may actually doit.

MOTD
If you don't plan it you won't doit
If you always do what you always did
You will ALWAYS GET what you always GOT

2009 plans ( anybody interested)

June 18 2008, 7:47 PM

Speaking of 2008 tripping

Where on Kingscotte are you hoping to camp.
Recent Outdoor Canada says Scorch Lake lookup is
not to be missed they say
if you are in the area ( and we will be close )
so I hope that planned base camp for the gaggle will be at North end of Kingscotte.
Perhaps the three sites on the right hand shore are a decent option
If my buddy comes ( or Marguerite perhaps)
I might then plan the loop and come out York River exit.

IMHO Byers would make a better base camp and with only two campsites
likely the lake would be just AA's/canoes or kayaks and
"NO motor boats" as I expect will be present on Kingscotte

BTW: Last I heard you were talking about going back to BT and this would be a
great primer to go to Byers for base camp.
Start triaging gear now so everything could fit in a canoe
and then leave the boat/motor behind if not in 2008 then
for 2009...
Gas is getting expensive ... "Don't you know"
not to mention the noise and other polution these motors cause!

I wonder what the sites are like on Byers wrt the expected gaggle planning to attend.

Anyways back to 2009 planning

I am sure the Petawawa would be a blast and one needs time
to prepare for this type of canoeing
( e.g WhiteWater prepartion likely may need to practice before hand )

Of course, WW on the PET should not interfewre with any
WP Express 2009 .... should that be an option.
Brain flash---> That reminds me... Yet another 2009 trip option

I'd luv to go in one way and paddle out to Grand and then
another could easily walk in and get a wagon ride out
Keeps the cost down and many may not have the full 5-7 days
available but would like to experience the Wp Express

Anybody interested in doing the PET in Aug 2009

Anybody interested in a one way out from WP

( It's not that bad of a walk or bike-ride ...

I did in in 2 hrs this year and it was a blast coming out
cause I even had opportunity to actually stop and
vist Dusk Lake.
It's great when one can Stop and SMELL the roses
rather than rush,rush,rush

Speak up please and voice your interest in the PET or WP
trip possiblity in 2009 ( WP in May of course and Pet in late Aug )

Hi Racoon,

I would definately be interested in a 1 way (in or out) of WP. I have expressed this interest before with no takers. If I'm going for a few days, then the 14km would be worth it.

Looking Good

June 19 2008, 6:55 AM

Y're on!!!
I'll keep your name at the top of my list for the one way out
if and when this becomes confirmed likely early sprng as some
procrastinators are still planning only 2008 trips

It would be perfect if there was a solo at WP that you can team up
with so as to not lug a canoe with you on the 14 portage

But this would be a good item for one's BUCKET LIST

Regardless , there should be adequate room for you in anothers boat or
Canoe especially if the fishing was as good as this year
and some get tired of fishing and stay shorebound
as that would leave oddles of room for you

L8tr
Planning/packing for Cedar next week
Poncho and raincoat looking like a MUST have
Perhaps an umbrella as well!!!

Me Alan and Andrew would probably want to go back should the room be available (Though me and Andrew would probably only go for the week.. it's too cold for an extended trip for me )

Jeff

P.S. Bearcub - did you get the link to the map?

It's a long way off but if you would like to take deposits to confirm a seat I would be willing.
Rather than the 14km portage, I am also thinking of other options where I can portage in from the other side and ride out or the reverse.
Also, how do you think a canoe cart would withstand the trail in?

A canoe cart would be no problem as I've done that before.

Remember though, it's all uphill on the way in.

AM trip in

June 20 2008, 7:13 AM

Hey AM

Come in via Loonskin/North Branch and that way
I'll know that the portage has been cleaned/cleared
of deadfall that had to be moved as they were blocking
the way

Good warm up from Grand to Greenleaf/Barron
Its a misey 5 K so likely a slow jog would be doable
