I don't own one, but Turtle makes awesome paddles.

How much do you want to spend?

Hi Preacher,

I don't want to spend too much. Just looking for a set + 1 smaller size to get me through the summer. Basically just for slow moving rivers and archipelago travel (rocky shoreline). Also training my boy so don't want to worry about them getting banged up.

I'd go to my favourite outfitter and ask if they sell their rental paddles. Failing that, $40 will get you a decent paddle.

Paddle fetish is a strange thing. People talk about their ZREs and Grey Owls and custom made 9.875 degree pitch bentshafts. Most people I know do just fine spending less than $50. Getting a comfortable shaft length is key.

Yes yes, we're all having a Beavis & Buthead moment.
Paddle fetish...heheheee...shaft...heheheh.

Got a few decent used paddles at outfitter

June 25 2008, 4:42 PM

I was able to pick up some decent paddles
from the outfitter on Achray Road under $20
(this is road to Grand/White Partridge/ARO)

Other outfitter , like Preacher said, should have
similiar deals. If you want a show paddle
then like a bit of elbow grease and new finish coating
( even perhaps a picture on blade) will do wonders

Such paddle maintenance show be done regularily anyways
unless you really have a "show paddle" that it never hits rocks
or shore

MEC

Hi Cls,

Check out MEC.
We've always been happy with the Red Tail paddles that MEC sells. They're not expensive and they have
held up well over the years. In other words, good value.

If you just want a paddle, then Canadian Tire is convenient and inexpensive:

Note that "paddle fetish" is a fair term to describe many an addiction to multiple different and expensive paddles. At the end of the day a paddle is anything you stick in the water and swish around to make your boat move. Now at the beginning of the day ....

used

I've had some great success with the used ones sold by the outfitters. Haven't paid over $5 for a paddle there either.
They'd be good to bang around on the rocks with the kids.

I use mine for the real thing !!
