Planning again ANOTHER trip.

This time I'm going to take my daughter to Cedar Lake.

Anyone have any advice on hotspots for Specks in the area.

I love fishing Walleyes so I'm hoping someone could point me in the rght direction as well.

All looks good for a trip this time "DAMN" I've had everything ready since May.

Thanx all

Hi Mike,

Sean(of Ajax) took me to the rapids where the Petawawa comes into Cedar Lake(Right across the lake from Brent.
You'll probably see a few powerboats fishing there as well. We found a vehicle brake drum which Sean used to make an excellent anchor. We were right in there, mere meters from the last of the falls..right among all the swirling rapids. Use light spinners..as you can get snagged easier if you use heavier stuff(Oh boy do I know that one!).
There was a few Bass, too much whitefish, and a few Walleye. I caught a pretty good size one, that nearly broke my wrist. Damn they fight Hard, Sean says more so than Bass, it got away though and is still there probably waiting for you to come along!
We also fished the rapids up in The Nippising. Again, lots of whitefish and bass.
Didn't see any Specks on Cedar. Jake at AO mentions that in the old days, the ration of whitefish to Specks was maybe around 15:1, now he says it is around 60:1. Sean did catch a Speck in The Nip, on Father's Day weekend, but had it subsequently stolen from a huge walleye that took it off his stringer.

Thanx Markus I really appreciate the advice and will try those spots for sure.

I love eating whitefish as well so looks like I'll be in Heaven.

I've got alot of speck tackle and just bought some Mepps #0 Aglia squirrel tail spinners and am just dying to try them
(LMAO big name for bucktail spinners).

Couldn't find these locally and got them off ebay delivered for $2 each. Great Buy.

Anyways enuff yakking just getting excited

Thanx Again

Can't wait to meet up with my fellow Brothers and Sisters from AA

We're heading to the park from July 13th to 19th (Cream coloured Scott Prospector)
Fat guy in the back LOL

The thanks really goes to Sean.
In an otherwise crappie weather day, I would've sat around camp in the pouring rain.
Instead, I got to see 2 or 3 Bull Moose, caught lots of fish, and saw a Cow moose and a calf...a great day indeed!
But yeah, you'll definitely love all the whitefish.
Another spot, is the culvert underneath the railway bed, near the point of land that juts out to the largest island on Cedar Lake(South End). We fished from the shallow water a few meters out of the culvert, on the Cedar Lake side. On the closed-in pond side, there is fish as well, but a steep bank....you can see the fish swimming around. On the Cedar Lake side, I was told to fish there for Specks years ago, but all we caught were bass and whitefish.

I said you would not melt in the rain and I was right, wasn't I??? hahaha... Just glad I had the chance to check out the area a couple weeks earlier and find some good spots for wildlife and fish.

Behind the big island we stayed on there is a sandbar. If you can find it, the walleye like to hang off it (or so I have been told).

I'll keep a log and let you all know what happened, hopefully with pics. Rain or sun now that I know to keep moving and try it all.

Mike L : great campsite suggestion

July 1 2008, 7:31 PM

Island at the far end of Cedar where the petawawa r
exits towards Radiant.

IMHO its a 5 start and has a full outhouse
( because there are two campsites on the island
but hopefully the main one ( small rock cliff facing Brent /
big island )

Wood easily obtained from shore
and the isle with some wind would likely would be ideal
if there are still some bugs around

Perhaps a sidetrip to Radiant and then if you
stayed two nights then perhaps a side to Philips
for SPECKS if time permits

How long are you going in for ?

Mike:

All those lakes you mentioned have specks in them, with Gull and Glacier
being the best ones.
