Anyone done Tim Lake to Rosebary late in the season. I'd like to try in September but was concerned about water levels. I can't see a problem this year with all the rain but just wanted some experienced opinions.

Thanks

Joel

I've read all the warning, but haven't ever heard of anyone having problems beyond the usual problems on the Tim. Triple the map distance. Back and forth and back and forth and you're 20' from where you started as the crow flies. Oh and beaver dams on that section too. Wet feet.

Thanks! Beaver dams are not a problem for me. I just don't want to bottom out... we travel rather heavy.

I did that exact trip last year with my dad. We stayed on Tim L and did a day trip up to Rosebary. The water levels were low and there were several beaver dams. However since we were just day tripping we didnt really have much weight, and we had an ABS canoe so we pretty much just tried to ram our way over everything....if you have a loaded canoe you can expect to have some difficulties....some of the dams are very small but others will require you to unload and reload...keep in mind too that some dont have any landing area at all so you will be getting wet feet etc and may not have a good spot to unload your gear...i have some pics of the dams that ill send your way from my home computer....Its a nice trip though

Hmm I could only find a couple pics...but it gives you an idea of the shoreline and what kinda stuff you can expect to be paddling (and wading) in...

That last one

Do the alders (if that's what they are) really grow that thick as shown in the last picture? Or were you taking a detour of some sort?

That doesn't look like the Tim between the lake and Rosebary, especially that last one.

Were you guys daytripping to Latour or somewhere?

Mike, that first pic is nice. (So are the other 2, I didn't mean it that way. LOL) It shows why I like the Tim and others don't.

Ok, that's more like what I expected the Tim to look like. Those first pictures threw me off a bit!

Just be careful stepping out onto the beaver dams.

I was wearing shorts and sandals the first time,
and my foot went through a "weak" spot. Got a bit
scratched up what with the ends of the branches, but
nothing too serious. Made me stop and test before I
made my next move.

It's unreal what difference can occur in a couple of
days because of the dams. It was clear sailing when
we went into Rosebary, but a few days later, it was
completely different going back out. Our canoe was
dragging like crazy...once we finally turned a corner,
we could see the increased height of the dam. Made a
difference of quite a few inches in the water level below it.

And Preacher's right....it can drive you nuts doing all
that twisting and turning, and you look back to see you've
only travelled a few feet. LOL But I really do like
that section...especially in the fall, the leaves have turned
colour....and the loons are still around to entertain you.

Looking forward to seeing your pics and trip report.

Those last two pictures look like the put in from the Queer portage and then a little further down. I remember pushing through alders like that. It wasn't so bad, just hop out and push. Just not the stretch buddy's talking about.

Ah, yeah, ok....I see what you mean, Preacher.
I think you got it.

Just a note: Mike's second pic is of the bottom of
the staircase on the 110m portage, between the access
and Rosebary.

And isn't that Mr No-Pants?
