Hello All

I may have missed this, does anyone ever post GPS coordinates of campsites, portages, interesting places etc?

I'm thinking of starting to

Hey Steve....

I "played" with GPS a few years back with my students at work, and found that a class set of 30 identical units would produce varying (close but not identical) coordinates. I did a "treasure hunt" with the kids, and even in an open field, the kids struggled to find the "loot".

That was 4 years ago though, and I hear that finite accuracies have improved greatly. With that in mind, I'm asking Santa for a GPS unit this year, as I like the idea of using geotags to get to some of the interesting points in the park, that I might otherwise miss. Other then on Google Earth though, I haven't been able to find many "good" geo tags in the park that I wanted to investigate. It would be cool though to have the coordinates, if not only for my personal use.

Interestingly enough, I've heard the Park is in the process of getting geo tags (coordinates) for all the interior sites; I'm just not sure if theve published or even finished collecting them.

I just bought a Garmin 530 HCX. I have been playing with it finding some Geocaches. I found it gets me within a 8-10 foot radius, close enough to find a portage or a campsite.
If you are considering a GPS I highly recommend this unit. It's a GPS, a GMRS/FPS Radio, Weather Radio, Compass, Altimeter, Thermometer, and all around cool toy.

Someone provided me with a very accurate .gpx file which I just traced on to my map. They used a 76CS (If my memory is any good.) It seems to have quite an improvement (Accuracy wise) over older units considering the other such .gpx files I've found on the web.

Oh yeah hey I never told anyone but back in March I won that Tim Hortons Garmin GPS. So I now have every Tim Hortons in N.America's coords etc lol they just had to get that option in their. I catch myself bringing that little thing all over the place, punching in Favourites all the time, great tools.

I'm heading to AP on Wednesday for my first Solo, I'm looking forward to trying out the new GPS.
Will definetly be marking a few things for future reference.
