If this has already been raised I apologize and would be pleased to be directed to the string.
Am heading into the interior next week. Trip # 15 perhaps. Have a couple of days booked into the Cabin on Big Crow along with some tenting and casual fishing with my boys.. I am interested to hear about cocktails folks like to pack for the end of the day. Aside from the beer, which is heavy to carry and wine which is ditto, does anyone have a favourite which might involve some kind of hard liquor with some form of drink crystals and water? Look forward to some feed back. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer!
My favorite cocktail starts off as a full 500ml water bottle full of Canadian wiskey, which I sip on its own throughout the day. When the bottle starts getting around half empty I then start topping it up with warm lake water and continue sipping... By the end of the day it get's difficult to determine how far the whiskey has been watered-down. The good thing is that the whiskey flavour remains very much intact and remains enjoyable. I usually go through one bottle a day. I don't find the need to mix with any other flavours like crystals, etc, but would also be interested in hearing what other guys are drinking out there. Cheers!

I like vodka mixed with sugar free grape drink mix. We call that one purple jesus juice. Another favorite is kamikaze - 2 parts vodka, 1 part triple sec and 1 part rose's lime juice. Fill a liter nalgene with that and you've got a good night for a couple people.
My personal favorite is gin...bombay sapphire straight. I usually have it on the rocks but, since ice is heavy and tough to come by, I just drink it.

baileys poured into a roasted large marshmellow after it has cooled and been pulled off the stick. you know the middle of the marshmellow should stick to the stick creating a nice wee shot glass. cheers

"Tomek" got me into this last November;
Take a bottle of Vodka, empty it, fill it with Cherries, then put as much vodka as you can back into the bottle.
Let sit for a few days. Empty bottle into Nalgene bottle(minus the cherries), bring to The Park, and enjoy the best tasting Vodka you ever had!
but be careful, it is easy to gulp it down

We have 2, we go in for our spring fishing trips and we take BLACK RUSSIANS and JACK DANIELS, trick for the JD is to find some shoreline with ice still on it ( we go in the Wed after the opener so it has never been problem ) and pour in a little JD on Ice, let sit for 10 minutes and it takes the bite out of it. Main Camp rule, no drinking until back at camp for the day and all wood has been cut, all sharp objects are put away, seen to many accidents happen that way and it is not something you want 5 or 6 hours into the bush. Enjoy

Unfortunately the options for beer in plastic bottles has been reduced now that the new Steelback has gone to glass to "preserve the high quality of their product" (the response when I sent them an email on the topic). Beer is my first choice for the 'drive to' interior lakes.
Gin and Lake water for the portage lakes.

Sad yes... Few Plastic beer now
July 10 2008, 11:39 AM
We may have to chnage our lunch menu for warm days
Hot Dogs, Smoked Meat Sandwhich or KD oe Beans and weinners
washed down with a lake chilled beer was a standard
I am in the process of brewing a batch ( home brew from a kit
Takes 30 days but it in the fermenting pail and waiting for bottling
in 500 ml green plastic in 30 days
Hopefully a true test can be tried Aug 21 in Kingscotte Lake
as that should be the appropriate 2 weeks before fit for consumption
according to directions
BTW:
Some say they don't make a bad beer
It's just that some are better tasting than others
We will see!!!

One of my concoctions is powdered cocoa, mix with camp coffee, then add a shot of brandy. Real good around the fire at night.

Have premixed some cocktails for fun. Chocolate Monkey, Flaming Gorillas.. not sure about the primate thing. Also something called Crispy Crunch. Am planning on Crystal Meth and of course.. a bit of whiskey and some spiced rum and a shot or 2 of Baileys.
Will post the recipes for the pre-mixed on my return if they are any good. Thanks for all the input.. I must take my leave now and make my way to Heaven's Turnoff.. rather Huntsville Turnoff.. back next Wed.

Orange Juice
July 14 2008, 3:04 PM
If you like orange juice you can bring Tang crystals in pouches and mix it with vodka, rum or rye. I prefer the rum and orange juice combo. You could also use those small pouches of flavored crystals (sorry I forget their name). They are about the size of your baby finger and are very sweet. If you have a sweet tooth they go very well with the above drinks.

I just found a new very very good tasting thing. I mixed rum with Nestly Pomegranate mix. It reminded me of some drink I had while in Cuba... very very good. Also that drink Marcus was talking about is very good much kind of sneaks up on you

Yummy,
One of my fave's is Lemonade crystals + gin, already mentioned a few times here. Double the amount of crystals that would normally go in 300 ml glass (e.g. nalgene), mix with water and add 1 (or 2) shots Gin (lemon wedge garnish).
Tang (or Peach) Crystals (standard amount that goes in 300 ml bottle) + 2 shots CocoRibe (Coconut liquor)
Gin + Tang (Gin-ang). Same idea as the first one.
Baileys (or your fave coffee liqueur) + Fresh ground/bodumed Coffee.
I've also been thinking of taking a Bicardi's (or McCain's) frozen Drink mixes in (Strawberry or Lime Margarita/Coconut). Open can and dump in appropriately sized nalgene prior to leaving.
WHen at campsite pour desired amount into other larger nalgene with suitable amount of water. Add the appropriate alcohol/liqueurs. Shake well. Concentrated, high in sugar fruit mixes like this should be good for at least 4-5 nites in the park before spoiling.
I've done the vodka + various fresh quality fruits (Kiwis/peach/pineaple) + sugar blends then let sit for a few weeks before filtering. Makes nice VERY sweet liquors. Good way to use up cheap vodka.
Recipes here: http://www.homestead-farm.net/RecipeLiquor.html
One can also purchase a hand-powered blender for those who want to bring in fruit and get closer to the real deal. Would be nice to have winter camping with all that ice/snow around or an early Spring trip...
