this is my 1st post but I have been visiting this site for years, one of my favorites, the community and info\pics are awesome.

Anyway, due to a bit of procrastination on my part I had to book my annual trip with the kids to Billy lake. I see the site are not maintained, has anyone visited this lake?
Just wondering what I'm in for...

I've been there a few times.....you drive right to the lake sort of....
you park and then you have to take your gear down a path of around
50 meters or so.

The sites are pretty good. From the access point, the first site on your
right (across a little bay) is where I always stay. Great site....flat
and sloping rocks into the water for easy fishing off shore...and deep!

There is another great site across the lake from this site as well.

Billy is heavily stocked with splake.

Where is Billy lake?

Billy lake I would say is southwest of Crotch Lake.Take the Major Lake road from Madawaska and it is just as you enter the Algonquin park bounderies.Below Kitty Lake,Farm Lake and Crotch Lake.

If I remember correctly the parking lot is up the road a bit, so it's not immediately at the lake or at your site.
At least 15 yrs ago we stayed across the lake from the road and from the high rocky site. At the time found the site to be a bit small and overgrown, typical of a low maintenence site. There was so much moose poop we had to kick it out of the way and clear a spot for our tent!
Even then it was heavily stocked with Splake of which we fished for and caught none.
The sites are probably better maintained now since there is more Algonquin trafiic coming in from Hwy 60 (at Madawaska)

The old road in to Shall/Crotch was a very rough one in the Spring, bottoming out on rocks and with fair sized mud patches. The road has since been re-routed and the Shall lake push off location has changed. (So, it's been a while!).

The last time I was at Billy Lake was last year.

Bill Lake is on your way to Farm/Crotch Lake access point. You get your
permits there for Billy and then you backtrack the way you came about 5
minutes. The turnoff will be on your right after you get your permits
and the lake is visible from the main road.

The parking lot is right where this little 50m trail to the lake begins.
Not really a parking lot, but just an area to park your cars on the
side of the road.

All the times I have been there, I've only had others camped on the lake
once so basically I found it very private if you like privacy. Of course,
the odd time, day fishermen would come in and fish for a few hours, but come
night, 90% of the times I've been there it's been all mine... mine...mine...
mine.....and I love that feeling and experience!!

Can you access a lake,if you want to swim or get H2O?Is lake shallow or deep?

Yes you can access the lake from the parking lot to get water. Lake
is pretty shallow where you start from. I remember it being somewhat
weedy and a wee bit of a sandy bottom.

However, on the campsite across the bay, it is really deep off shore.
