Spring Photo Contest Winners
Algonquin Outfitters, Spring Photo Contest '08, has come to a close. With the judging completed by our three judges,
Laura Bombier (photographer,
http://laurabombier.com/),
Les Stroud (Survivorman,
http://www.lesstroudonline.com/) a
nd Rich Swift (
http://www.algonquinoutfitters.com),
we are ready to announce our winners.
The photo contest ran from March 15th until May 31st 2008. Our judging took a little longer since Les is in the middle of filming for his third season of Survivorman and Laura's on location out side of Canada in the middle of a photo shoot, even Rich was at our most remote location, our Brent store located on Cedar Lake on Algonquin Park's North side.
Judging was also more difficult than expected because of the quality of many photos submitted, not to mention the vast numbers, over 150, submitted to the contest.
Prize List:
1st place $100 Gift Certificate for Algonquin Outfitters
2nd place $75 Gift Certificate for Algonquin Outfitters
3rd place $50 Gift Certificate for Algonquin Outfitters
Now onto our winners
1st place goes to Corey Floyd, from Denver, CO. His photo entitled Source, was photographed on Source Lake in Algonquin Park back in Aug 2002 using his Canon EOS Elan ][E camera and 28-80mm lens. Corey heard about the photo contest through his friends. When asked about this photo he commented "A couple of friends and I went out for a solo paddle to watch the sunrise. The morning air had a slight chill with the mist obscuring everything. It was totally silent and an amazing start to a classic Algonquin Day."
2nd place goes to Lyn Winans. Entitled, Untamed Elegance, this red fox was captured on film near Mizzy Lake in Algonquin park on Nov 10th 2007 using an Olympus E510 camera, Lyn found our photo contest using a search engine on the Internet.
3rd place goes to Jeff Doubt of Wiarton, Ontario. Jeff's photo entitled, Pog Lake Sunset, truly captured family camping at Pog Lake in Algonquin Park. When asked about his photo Jeff commented "It was an enjoyable week of camping, canoeing and hiking on Pog lake. Can't beat the sunsets there."
We would also like to feature the following photos as honorable mentions: (not in any order) Sharon Stock Feren from Huntsville Ontario for "From the Lookout, Centennial Ridge"
Mary Lynch from Toronto Ontario
and Joshua Hakin from London Ontario entitled "Tribute to Tom Thomson"
With such a great response to our first photo contest, Algonquin Outfitters has announced that a new photo contest will start July 1st and run until Sept 15th 2008.
