Lets see where do I start...

I missed the spring gathering because of vehicle problems and a twisted knee.

FINE.

I was supposed to do a trip with my daughter that fell through at the last possible moment ( Everything packed ) Mum got sick...88yrs old and lives with us so had to stay.

FINE

Planned a trip with 2 of my daughters and 1 of their boyfriends my wife and I.
Anyways we go into the park and 2 days in my knee decides to go it's own way and we turn around to come home. The weather gets FANTASTIC and out we come (of course).
I decided to drive back home (Kingston) the scenic route and take Hwy 60 to Eganville then link up to hwy 41 and homeward bound. FINE

NOW THE FUN

On our drive home we lost the rear drivers wheel travelling at 100 KPH all the lugs but 1 had come off and the last one just snapped. Thank God there was nobody coming in the other direction and we were in a left bank on the highway. Our wheel ran down the highway finally resting in the opposite ditch, the brake drum was never found.
NOBODY was seriously hurt except of course for my knee. Which I twisted when I snapped to attention to gain control.
The vehicle is a 2004 Chev Tracker and my new baby all of owning her for only 3 months.
Well $3200 dollars a new rear end and shes all better.
The kids were all rattled but fine.

If your travelling Hwy # 60 look for Harrington Rd which is Just on the west side of Killaloe about 4 kms from the OPP station. You'll see a straight gouge line in the pavement about 1" deep running to Harrington Rd around 200m long.

BUT I would like to thank the gentleman who went and got us cold Gator aids while were at the side of the Highway and kept checking on us to make sure we were all right. I couldn't help but have a tear come to my eye, there are still some GREAT people left in the world God Bless them...

The Officer J. McCloud of the Killaloe OPP for all he did for us as well.

Anyways on the good side of all this......

We had the tow truck come and he had to take our truck to Pembroke (Butlers)
A FANTASTIC bunch. Fell over themselves to help us.

Our accident happened at 4:30 pm and the tow truck driver could only take 2 of us. So I told my wife to go and take our youngest daughter who was very upset and go to Pembroke and see if she could get us a rental and get the truck to the dealership.

So we the last 3 stayed back with the canoe trailer and waited for a hopeful return the same evening. We were prepared to pitch a tent at the side of the Hwy. The Police were constantly checking on us to make sure we were all right.
Well about 2 hrs passed and we seen the tow truck and no wife, then in she pulled with the only rental left a 2008 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4X4. Might as well go in style.

SOOOOOooooo as it turns out the Dealership is the authorized place our vehicle was supposed to go to and the rental company is the place our insurance deals with, talk about weird luck.

FOR ALL YOU BROTHERS AND SISTERS TO NOTE

The CHAMPLAIN MOTEL in Pembroke just down the road from Butler Chevrolet has mobile home rentals in the back for $110. a night they have a stove ,fridge and ours had 3 bedrooms 1 cot and a pullout couch. GREAT DEAL a litte run down but a hell of a deal.

Lucky nobody was hurt, but how did the lug nuts come off? I'm assuming a 3 month old vehicle has not had the wheels off before.

Holy crap! That's a nightmare. Lug nuts should never come off like that. Unless you're driving a U-Haul, then it's a feature!

Lucky everyone's ok, good to hear. And you got an adventure out of it!

Your Streak of Bad Luck

August 21 2008, 7:20 PM

Geez Mike,

I'm at a loss for words almost, your run of bad luck takes the cake. Glad everybody is OK and that some kind souls came to the rescue. I'll be passing through that area on my way to Golden Lake and Pembroke for some wedding festivities Thanksgiving weekend, I'll be on the lookout for that gouge in the pavement. Did you actually go camping with the motorhome or did you stay parked at the motel?
My 1999 Transport was in need of a new head gasket just before a camping trip to Mikisew P.P. so we ended up van shopping instead of camping but I did manage to get to Grundy P.P. in July, going to Awenda with friends & kids (will miss Bo's milestone gathering at Kingscote -really wanted to meet some AAers) and have tentative plans to get to Algonquin on the Sept.13-14 weekend. So I was bummed out there for a while too especially since thats the second car we had to pick up this year!. Hope my knee holds up for some hiking in Utah later in Sept.
Anyways, Mike keep the faith - you're only due for a good run now. The bad stuff is out of the way OK

Nice story Mike! Really glad things worked out OK and no one was hurt,
except your pocketbook??????

And, are you by chance related to CLS on this site. She too lost her
wheel lugs on the front wheel of her jeep on the way to our reunion on
Grand Lake a couple of years ago. But hers happened on a gravel road when
she wasn't going that fast. But she did lose a wheel that rolled into a
ditch I do believe the story went.

Lost my nuts too

August 25 2008, 6:46 PM

Mine decided to depart the left drivers side front of my Jeep YJ on the road into Achray. It was just my son and I going in. It's a scary thing. Left me shaken up all weekend. If anything, it helped restore a bit of my faith in humanity, 2 older gentlemen stopped to help me, and park staff were so considerate in letting me make the phone calls to insure I made it back home safely. A guy from the base in Petawawa was arranged by my hubby to meet me on the way out to make sure everything was tightened and my rotor was safe enough to drive on for the 8 hr journey home.

My gouge in the road is probably still there too. Couldn't get the burning metal smell away for days.

Glad your ok.

Thanx all .

Well insurance came thru, of course minus the deduction.

I'm now trying to figure out how long it would take to portage from Home to the Park lol

This year has been a write off, found I might have torn the muscle in my knee and may need surgery, but hey all's good.

I certainly am glad it wasn't the front wheel tho, sorry to hear about that CLS it's never good and always hard to get the visions out of the mind.
Thank god no one was hurt in your accident. Thats when our Angels sure lose a few feathers LOL
