Lets see where do I start...
I missed the spring gathering because of vehicle problems and a twisted knee.
FINE.
I was supposed to do a trip with my daughter that fell through at the last possible moment ( Everything packed ) Mum got sick...88yrs old and lives with us so had to stay.
FINE
Planned a trip with 2 of my daughters and 1 of their boyfriends my wife and I.
Anyways we go into the park and 2 days in my knee decides to go it's own way and we turn around to come home. The weather gets FANTASTIC and out we come (of course).
I decided to drive back home (Kingston) the scenic route and take Hwy 60 to Eganville then link up to hwy 41 and homeward bound. FINE
NOW THE FUN
On our drive home we lost the rear drivers wheel travelling at 100 KPH all the lugs but 1 had come off and the last one just snapped. Thank God there was nobody coming in the other direction and we were in a left bank on the highway. Our wheel ran down the highway finally resting in the opposite ditch, the brake drum was never found.
NOBODY was seriously hurt except of course for my knee. Which I twisted when I snapped to attention to gain control.
The vehicle is a 2004 Chev Tracker and my new baby all of owning her for only 3 months.
Well $3200 dollars a new rear end and shes all better.
The kids were all rattled but fine.
If your travelling Hwy # 60 look for Harrington Rd which is Just on the west side of Killaloe about 4 kms from the OPP station. You'll see a straight gouge line in the pavement about 1" deep running to Harrington Rd around 200m long.
BUT I would like to thank the gentleman who went and got us cold Gator aids while were at the side of the Highway and kept checking on us to make sure we were all right. I couldn't help but have a tear come to my eye, there are still some GREAT people left in the world God Bless them...
The Officer J. McCloud of the Killaloe OPP for all he did for us as well.
Anyways on the good side of all this......
We had the tow truck come and he had to take our truck to Pembroke (Butlers)
A FANTASTIC bunch. Fell over themselves to help us.
Our accident happened at 4:30 pm and the tow truck driver could only take 2 of us. So I told my wife to go and take our youngest daughter who was very upset and go to Pembroke and see if she could get us a rental and get the truck to the dealership.
So we the last 3 stayed back with the canoe trailer and waited for a hopeful return the same evening. We were prepared to pitch a tent at the side of the Hwy. The Police were constantly checking on us to make sure we were all right.
Well about 2 hrs passed and we seen the tow truck and no wife, then in she pulled with the only rental left a 2008 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4X4. Might as well go in style.
SOOOOOooooo as it turns out the Dealership is the authorized place our vehicle was supposed to go to and the rental company is the place our insurance deals with, talk about weird luck.
FOR ALL YOU BROTHERS AND SISTERS TO NOTE
The CHAMPLAIN MOTEL in Pembroke just down the road from Butler Chevrolet has mobile home rentals in the back for $110. a night they have a stove ,fridge and ours had 3 bedrooms 1 cot and a pullout couch. GREAT DEAL a litte run down but a hell of a deal.
