Have the cabin booked and wanted to know if it is possible to travel up through the Spectacle Lakes from the Achray put-in in one day, or if we should just head up Grand and take the big portage through to Wenda directly. I hear water levels thru the lower lakes can be a problem.

If you hate portaging, it would be better to do the big one into Wenda and getting rid of it...or if you want to take your time, getting to Wenda from Carcajou Bay is a good way to start your trip and to discover those small, peaceful lakes. Have fun.

Depends on whether you are looking at the time involved, or the easiest way to get there.

Easiest way is through the Spectacle Lakes but is almost double the amount
of time it would take instead of the long portage from Grand right to
the cabin on Wenda. This long portage starts off really steep, but then
levels out for the most part of the portage and actually goes down hill
to the cabin on Wenda.

We left Grand (Achray) at 12:30 pm and arrived at campsite on Little Carcajou
around 5:30 pm.... Even had time to fish enroute ( trolling parts of U/L Spetacle). From Little Carcajou is a small portage to Wenda
We evenhave a 20 minute break/drink with Markus and Joan
at the start of Lower Spectacle

I'd suggest going to Wenda via Upper/Lower Spectacles unless
you just want to go to Cabin and use the aluminm canoe that I believe is
provided as part of the cabin.

Lots more to see paddling U/L Spectacles IMHO


We did the Wenda to Grand portage on the way back from GreenLeaf
and its not that bad but next time I would return via Greenleaf to Grand
portage or backtrack through U/L spectacle
