| Any suggestions for Thanksgiving long weekend trip destination from Toronto to AP?
Can any one share their experiences during this time of year?
Our group consists of four people, with some tripping experience.
How busy is the Park at that time of year?
Thanks

I have been to Algonquin on the weeks prior or after thanksgiving weekend on at least 15 occasions. All trips have been from Sand Lake gate. In that part of the park, it is very quiet, with only a few other souls around, mainly during the long weekend. On weekdays, you had the whole spot to yourself...that's why I keep going back.
I know it is farther from Toronto, but I can assume that some places along Hwy 60 should be a little bit busier, but nothing like in July!
Get lots of firewood for long evenings, get up early to take in all the sunlight you can and try to camp on a site facing the south and out of the northern winds. |

I have been doing a Thanksgiving weekend trip for the last 12 years. Some years the weather is great and other years it is snow and rain and sleet. 2 years ago it was the rain and sleet and snow so I came out a couple days early just from a safety point of view (I was on a solo trip). Last year I was on Big Porcupine and there were mosquitos and the weather was beautiful.
I hit Pen Lake 2 years ago, which has lots of options for exploring if the weather is great and it is not too far in if the weather turns bad.
All I can say is be prepared for anything, weather-wise...

what about Thanksgiving crowds?
I'm thinking about a trip on that weekend, as well.
what kind of night temperatures have you witnessed? |

Most of the crowds at that time of year have been concentrated along the Hwy 60 Corridor watching the Fall Colours. I see very few interior at that time of year.
Temps have ranged from the high teens to just below zero.
