Kingscote to Big Rock lake Portage

Did any one travel this portage in the last two years?

Last time we were there a busy beaver had dam the stream at the north end of Kingscote and the portage was flooded. We had to bushwack along the side of the hill through the forest with our canoe.

Thanks
Moe

It's likely you'll find it very wet again. We came through in mid-July this year from Big Rock. Two or three sections towards the Kingscote end are boggy and tough going, and the side trails people have made to circumvent the flooded spots are sloping and narrow, so it can be hard to manoeuver a canoe through them.

Same old story

Moe,

We checked out the portage on Aug. 22 when we gathered with Bo Knows on Kingscote Lake.
It was wet, flooded, mucky, muddy, - just as it was the last time I was there in Oct. 1999 !
Having said that, there was a group that was just finishing the portage from Big Rock to Kingscote.
They had mud up to their knees.

For the last ten years or so, A.P. has been promoting this area of the park as a new, improved, refurbished place to take a 'simpler', 'easier' canoe trip. - New campsites on Scorch Lake, etc. - Closer drive from metro Toronto.
However, I have heard of this portage being a mess on many an occasion. Not just when I was there.
I would think that a couple of boardwalks would go a long way to making this part of the park more friendly.

IMHO,
Stainless

Let them know!

Hey Moe, Matt and Stainless

This portage situation is just what you should use the ABR "Incident Report" for.

Let park management know what's happening. The south end of the park is quite a ways from the East Gate office.

This is what the ABR is trying to encourage .. comments and feedback directly to the park.
