How Many Nights in a Tent ?

OK, now that snow is covering much of central Ontario, I think that it's safe to assume that the tenting season (at least the cold variety) is over.
My poll question: How many nights did you sleep (or at least assume a horizontal position) in a tent this year ?

I hope to publish the results in graphic form.

Well ,,,,,

while I'm sure Jeffrey M will win this one hands down, my total for the season was .....

2+2+2+1+2+7+2+1+2=21 nights.

Not a bad total, but considering all but two of the trips were after July, I wish it could have been more. Next year my goal is for 10 trips, with at least 4 3 nighters.

I only logged six sad.gif

Such a down year.

Lesson learned: If you spend all year working a 100 hours a week, you will not sleep much in a tent, but rather on a couch in your office.

2 (Rock Lake Trip)+30 (WP/Trip w/ Andrew)+19 (Trip w/ my father)+3 (Drummer L)+2 (Little I Lake)..... I think that's it. Total 56 nights/61 days. Any gatherings I'm forgetting?

Well, (if we include the Ranger Cabins), a grand total of 9 nights spread over 3 trips. Certainly, not enough.

Let's see.- 2 on Rock, 2 on Fork, 2 on Little Island, 1 at Mew, Merchant, Burntroot, Hogan, Proulx, 4 on French River,
equals = 15 in total.
Planning on more than that next year.

I spent 22 tent nights this year: 6 in Algonquin; the rest in other provincial parks in Ontario and Quebec. I plan on some winter snowshoe daytripping in Algonquin in late December.

I know 22 nights doesn't seem like much, but it's up from 12 tent nights last year. I hope to break 30 tent nights in 2009, work permitting, including some in the Rocky Mountain national parks.

For me I didn't get out as much as I had liked but my grand total would be 11 nights only of which 2 were spent in Algonquin. Certainly have to be envious of the larger totals!!!!!!!

7 in Algonquin, another 7 or so outside of Algonquin.

I kinda wish i could set up my hennessy in a room in my house. nothing beats that sleep. at least that's what my back tells me.

8 in a tent
4 in a hammock
5 in a cabin
1 in a car
4 in a four seasons hotel in budapest
3 in the hotel vienna
7 in a historic house in acadia maine
7 in a condo on the beach ocean city md

The hammock during a bachelor party was the most fun but that four seasons in budapest made me feel like a king. Only 18 of these nights would "qualify" but, since it's not a competition I threw in the rest!

Do they have to be in a tent? I've got some nights out, but none in a tent. Some in a bivy sack, some just out. One more night out left to go, next weekend.

1+5+2+2+2+7+1 = 20

Update:

Thus far, if we include my own paltry 5 nights (there were about 20 nights in a hotel room, which would have been far better spent in a tent - cheaper, too), and we also include all nights spent in a tent in anywhere including AP, we come up with an average of 18.9 nights.
Clearly, some of us are not doing nearly enough to contribute to that average.

Re: average year

My goal over the past few years has been to trip once a month from May to October. Some are full weeks and others are shorter weekend trips. Last year that amounted to 30 tent nights. I feel very lucky to be able to do this, but if I could get that number up to 10% of the year (36 nights) I'd be ecstatic!!!

Nights in a tent

December 1 2008, 6:03 PM

Unfortunately this year wasn't as much as I had hoped only a little over a dozen nights.. My record is 79 nights, in a summer guiding season when I worked as a canoe trip guide in APP.

The one trick that my wife and I have picked up, is adding another night to our trips with starting our paddling on the first night. It's interesting to say the lease, when you tackle your first night time portage or crossing of a fairly large lake in the dark. It's worth it though when you can squeeze a 3 day trip into a weekend by leaving Friday night and paddling until 3am in the morning. Head lamps are a wonderful invention!

Good for many of you that enjoy the park for many dozens of nights each year.

Randy have often thought of the Friday night thing but the tricky part is getting the permit....
