There are several nice sites that make great overnight locations as well as rest or lunch stops.
1 - nice spot where we had lunch but the site was a nice place and we would return if needing a site on the way to or from Longer Lake.
2 - first time through BT, we checked this site out from our canoe seats, which was a poor decision. We only saw the front yard which was OK for a small group and we turned thumbs down. The second time through Big Trout we actually got out and realizxed the site went way back into the woods with plenty of places for tents, tarps, hammocks, clothesline and shade.
3 - where we stopped the first year after passing on #2. There are two sites on this small island and we stayed at the northern site which was a split level spot. The tip of the island had a flat area where we set up our tarp and used the fire pit and left the canoes while back up the hill we found another large flat clearing where we pitched tents and set up the clothesline.
4 - this is an interesting site as it looks like a cliff face that has eroded. Many of you may have seen the dirt face from a distance and thought that it was a dirt patch. In '06 fwe entered BT from the Otterslides and paddled along the shorelin and around to this place and were about to head for site #3 but we saw a rock pier and park supplied steps up the hillside so we stopped. Due to the high winds we were grateful for trees to which we tied the canoes and upon reaching the site we were pleased to see a large flat grassy site with shade and plenty of space. We used this as a layover site and sat out the high winds in comfort.
Plenty of places from which to choose on Big Trout.
