Ways for the ABR to educate the public ???

Over this winter, the Algonquin Backcountry Recreationalists will be preparing to "reach out" to the public during 2009, to increase the public's awareness of the need to reduce their impact on the backcountry of Algonquin Park.

We'll be considering car-stickers, canoe-stickers, bulletin-board posters, 2009 newsletter, and brochures. Please help us out with your ideas .. about the messages, the images, the methods, the media.

We're dealing with topics such as ...
No to Nails .. Yes To Bungees
Leave Fireworks At Home
Fire Pit Safety
Cleanliness At Camp
Bottle and Can Ban
Etc.

The more ideas, the better. Feel free to head over to the ABR forum and share ideas and even images! http://www.network54.com/Forum/612132/

Thanks,

Feel free to use the Damaged Tree image for your promotion (posted in the ABR Forum). I'd love to catch the person who did the damage.

Barry,

Sometime during the winter when the board discussions really slow down, I was thinking of posting an open question that may tie in to this thread topic. Working off the premise that the easiest group to add to the roles of the conscientious park users are those who simply haven't yet learned or considered what is "right" when it comes to the way that they use the parks resources, I would propose the posting of a list of "Interior" Etiquette points at the Permit Offices and possibly in the Free "Newspaper " publication that is printed each year. "Etiquette" points would not be official published park rules (like party size limits and the can and bottle ban), but courtesies employed by experienced park users as they travel and camp in the Park's Interior. As points of etiquette they would obviously be self imposed, but also at the same time be "best practices".

More Camper Etiquette

December 16 2008, 9:17 AM

In this past year's Algonquin Information Guide (2008), staff added a couple of new paragraphs titled "More Camper Etiquette". While neither AA or the ABR has direct input into the official info guide, be assured that park management does read the forums. As well, the ABR is in regular communication with senior management. So, if you wish to list some extra etiquette pointers that you'd hope to see either in next year's park info guide or in ABR publications .. please head over to the ABR forum ( http://www.network54.com/Forum/612132/ ) and start up a new "Camper Etiquette" posting.

Bump,

With all the opinions around here about bans/rules/etc. I'd think there'd be more than 2 people willing to contribute to the Camper etiquette thread at http://www.network54.com/Forum/612132/

I'm planning on posting myself, but I don't want to discurrage everyone else from putting in their two cents too. So make a contribution, before I take credit for making all the rules: Tripping for the educated Camper.

What do you do "now that you know better"?

Think of it as "what rules would you like to see everyone enforce upon themselves to make evryone's Algonquin experience better." No need to concern onesself with the compliations of "official enforcement".
