Today is Century Day!
100 more days till opening day of trout season in APP.
This is a tradition that Bo Knows has started, and would just like to carry it on during his absence(I know he'll be back one day).
soo..woohoo! Winter is half over
Now Jeff,
Everyone knows that you go to Rock Lake, with possible side trips for opening weekend.
Some reasons are:
1) South of hwy 60 and if anything is going to be ice free then Rock will be
2) Paddle in sites right on the lake. No portaging required!
3) There's some good fishing within easy day trip range.
4) Tradition
Now, if the ice opens up early, then other destinations could become options, but for now I'm betting that most folks would be aiming for Rock lake the morning of April 25th.
Personally, I'll probably be into Pen with the kids the following weekend. This has definitely become a tradition for us.

hmmm..I was thinking of sticking with Rock Lake area too. Rob W. and Bo Knows have the right idea there. I have a feeling though that ice-out might be a tad late this year. We might have to camp at the campground instead!

I think I'd like to check out all the small lakes just north of North Tea. Manitou must house some lakers, as well -- the dropoffs you can see all over that lake are remarkable

Me to!

I'll be there also! I'll even be fishing this year!
man 100 days, that seems short on one hand but long in another .....
Luckly I'm off to the park this weekend for some snowshoeing day trips!
Good point Markus,
I should have included that on the benefits list. Given the 'last minute' ice out last year we had specifically decided that we were going anyway and in a worst case we'd just stay at the Rock Lake campground and do some hiking instead.

I might be wrong but I think the Car camping rates for ,at least, Rocklake went up $5. I don't remember for sure ,but I thought it was around $27 and change last year. Can someone verify that it went up?

Park fees can be found on the Ontario Parks website.
Click the different links for the various fees (Day use fees / Backcountry / Interior Camping fees / Roofed Accommodation fees / Group Camping /Reservation fees / Additional Vehicle fees / Trailers}
hmmmm $11/night interior in APP.
is that an 11% increase in the fee?(last year's was $9.90)
I pay it and will continue to pay it, and grumble more and more
if this is a recession, i'd hate to see what price hike there'd be if there was a depression.

Rock Lake at Ice Out

Thats a fine plan.
The campsite is a possibility depending on weather...
Perhaps I'll try and see if the Brothers/friends
are up to another Rock Lake campsite adventure. At least in Apr we would
not look as out of place with the wall tent/wood stove and Snow Blower
Rock Lake Apr 25 / 2009 sounds like the place to be for opener
Perhaps a day trip to Lousia or even Welcome is doable
or once again one could attempt BoKnows secret lake !!!
Or
a walkin trip to Speckled trout lake could be attempted

So what 's the problem
January 16 2009, 6:14 PM
For three bucks more in 2008 you got electricity
and the auto coffee perk has your brew ready as you roll
out of the tent.
With the new rates it looks like it is now $5.00 more for electricity
in 2009. Still not a bad deal as i'd say with likely 4 per site thats
only $1.25 each per night!!!
Mind you that tent sites with juice are limited at Rock
to make way for more trailer sites.
Yes there are tent sites with electicity
and when I must stay at a drive to campsite,
when electricy is available then the question
is " WHY NOT "
And just think of the "HOT crock pot meal" awaiting you as you return
at dusk, cold , wet and tired.
