For anyone that uses a Primus multi-fuel or similar stove that ends up with a super hot spot when cooking, here's my recent quick and cheap solution to getting rid of this hot spot. The solution involves using a simple round cutout of sheet metal that you install over your stove's hot spot. I made mine out of some leftover 26ga sheet metal. The diam is about 3.5" which roughly covers my stove's 2" super hot area. I riveted a tab that slides the round cutout into one of the serrated legs. This obviously slides off when I have to disassemble the stove. The key thing here is that you ensure that a small air gap exists between this round plate and what would be your cooking surface (ie pot).

My idea is clearly not original but an improvisation of what's already out there in the marketplace. But mine cost zero dollars :P From my one test so far, the heat does get evenly spread approximately across 5" circular area. I can now even lower the heat for a simmer. This happens because the flames are deflected by the round plate, which then heats up the 3-5mm of air between the plate and pot bottom. This process provides a very uniform heat across the pot bottom.

Here are some pics:

Here's the water nearing its boiling stage in my test pan. Notice the even distribution of bubbles over what would be the 3.5" plate plus about 1.5-2" extra.

Here's the water now boiling with the round plate removed. Take notice of the 2.5" concentrated hot spot.
