I was looking something up on opeongo outfitters and since they don't have email I thought I'd check and see if anyone on here new the answer. I want to use their canoe delivery service to Rock Lake. If you use this and the canoes are left there for you are they locked up and if so do you have to pick up the key from somewhere.
I think the permit office opens at 8:30 and I'd like to depart right then, if I have to go pick a key up from the store then I don't know if there would be any point to using the service. Does anyone know how this works?

I know they are definately not locked up.If I recall, but I'm not sure , they have an assigned number on them, and they are dropped off for the time you request them by, either that day or night before. If you want to call them they have a toll free number.

I was going to chirp in that Algonquin Bound runs a similar system as Moody describes: you make your reservation by phone, whip by their office on the way in and they give you a number. Find the canoe bearing that number at the access point and away you go.

I think the 'security' factor here is that all of the rentals bear a big outfitter logo and likely the scratches of many seasons' rentings. Maybe the idea is that it'd be a giveaway on whether a thief owns the canoe proper

You have to swing by the office and sign the rental agreement which is when they tell you which canoe is there for you. If you don't have your own paddles, they give them to you at the office as they don't leave the paddles with the canoe, which is not locked up in any way.

Are you sure Fredforest? My sons have rented from Opeongo outfitters in Whitney and they always did it by Phone and all was at Rocklake when they got there. There was only one time they dropped the canoe off at the hydro campground beach and not at the access point. So,Kevin, I would verify the dropoff point for the canoe when you rent it.
Anyhow if I were you Kevin I would phone the toll free number to be sure of the details.

I know they are pretty accomodating depending on your sked etc. Just sharing my own experiences based on my needs at the time.

Last year we just had one of the guys meet them at the Rock Lake access point when they were dropping off the canoes. Reservations were made by phone and no one had to actually go to the office. This worked really well for the folks in our group who were renting because we were coming from the west side of the park to start with.
