Campfires

My wife and I are traveling to The Park area on the weekend. We'll be staying outside the park, but will definitely be going into the park.

I would like to know, with a day pass are people allowed to drive up to an empty (unbooked) campsite, build, enjoy a campfire and then leave later on in the evening after putting out the fire. (of course)

Thanks
Moe

Hi Moe

As far as I know, all summer campsites or off limits during the winter months so that they have time to rejuvenate after being used all summer long. I know that with an "interior camping pass" one can explore the park and stop in the interior to enjoy a "shore lunch" which could include a fire. I would check thought at the point where you acquire your day permit to see if having a fire with a day permit is permissible. If it is aloud you will surely enjoy a wonderful warm rest stop, but please make sure the fire is fully put out with LOTS of snow!

Happy day tripping!

I think Moe means a campground campsite, like Mew Lake. In this case, I would think not, thus the need to buy a permit for a campsite. If however you wanted to hike a trail, and have a fire for warmth and cook some dogs over it, there should be no problem with that scenario, as long as you had the aforementioned day-pass. The thing about not using the "summer" campsites applies if you're interior camping in the winter. How are you going to find the privy box or the firepit under 3 feet of snow?

How it applies to day-use visits, I have no idea.

There is a whole boatload of information to be found on the Algonquin Park website.

Sometimes, it's really simpler (and better) to contact the people who run the place:

Again, found on the Algonquin Park website:

Day Use Fees:
Includes entrance to the Park, access to all trails, museums, beaches, picnic grounds, and facilities.

Markus is correct, that is what I meant. Driving up to a campsite like Mew Lake in the winter and starting a campfire.

Thanks Barbara for your links.

I will ask the office when we go to the park.

Thanks everyone.
Enjoy the coming long weekend.
