I am planning to do the Bice, little trout, queer, tim river trip but want to know is it better to go to thru shah to misty or go thru queer to the petewawa river. I have 5 days and want to end on daisy for 2 nights and relax. How long does the tim river take from the portage to shah lake portage. Would I be pushing it from queer to misty in one day. My son and his friend are 15 yrs old and never tripped much before. Also how long approx from misty to daisy? Should I do misty for 2 days then head for daisy for one night. We are going late Aug 23 approx.

Hello, Talltimber
I am fond of that part of the park, and was just in those parts in Aug. '07. It's been awhile since I paddled down that section of the Tim with my wife, but I remember it took twice as long as we thought it would (4 hours, I think). My cousin and I went from Casey L to Misty via the Petawawa in the same amount of time. Going the other direction would take a bit longer, as it is upstream, but doable in a day. I have not done the portage from Queer to Little Misty, but it would probably make for a shorter travel time that day. Misty is a beautiful lake, and would give you rest in the middle of the trip if you stayed for 2 days. You won't need much energy to get out from Daisy. |

I did a 5-day/4-night trip last August with a friend through that area. We stayed on Queer L the first night, Misty L the next two (day trip to McIntosh L), and Daisy L the last night. We went via Little Misty because that route was shorter (both paddling and portaging), and paddling the Tim isn't my favorite.
The pace of the trip was very relaxed - most days were 3-4 hours total. Misty L was the highlight for us. |

I was reading somewhere maybe here that you can do pandolin pond instead of the 700mtr portage???? Also how long should I expect from queer to misty as we only have 2 canoes and will push a little or should I just go into the pet then into daisy??? |

Maybe James can give you approximate times for the portages between Queer and Misty. I don't remember how long the 935m took me. Taking two canoes is likely to mean slower travel than one canoe. The amount of gear you take also makes a big difference. You have picked a comfortable route, especially if you skip the Tim. I wouldn't be worried about getting to your destination each day. |

We were traveling fairly light and single-carrying the portages. Last summer, even in August, the portages were muddy - the 935 especially so. I seem to remember the 2400 taking about an hour, maybe 90 minutes. The 935 took about 30 to 45 minutes. We arrived at Misty before lunch, although it was probably a later lunch - maybe 1:00, and we weren't exactly up with the dawn on this trip.
We are both good paddlers, although not prime physical specimens, by any means. |
