As a follower of AA I am asking if there is someone out there to go on a spring trip with me. My partner has to have surgery on his leg and will be unable to make this trip. Meanwhile I have it already set and booked. Myself I am an avid canoist with many years of Algonquin Experience and other canoe routes outside of Algonquin Park. My spring trip route for both speckle fishing and exploring this year is as follows: May 2 Catfish Lake at the narrows of Narrowbag L.
May 3 Catfish Rapids; May 4 Hayes L.; May 5 Catfish Rapids May 6,7,8, at Hogan Lake Parks Bay , May 9,10, at Philip Lake, May 11 Radiant Lake, May 12 Cedar Lake , May 13 leave for home or extend stay another day. I've chosen this area mainly because I haven't been here, I've been around this area but not this route. If anyone would like to partner up with me please let me know .This loop has been on my agenda for some time now and I really would like to do this area of the park this spring with someone who has a keen interest here.
Thankyou in advance
Chris M
Just something to consider while you're searching for a spring paddling partner. Unfortunately I have unbreakable commitments on the 3rd and 4th of May but could do the 5th onwards no problem. If you could go solo for a couple of days, might be able to work something out. I've been wanting to do an extended trip for awhile now.
Keep it mind and if you are unsuccessful in finding a partner, let me know.
Cheers

Chris,
My g/f just corrected me that my commitments are in MARCH not May. insert embarrassed emoticon here
I quickly read you itinerary and was excited to see that you are an avid speckle trout fisherman and that you will be targeting some rapids AND Phillip Lake; one of the best untapped speckled lakes in the park. Not to mention a shot or two at some walleye in Radiant.
Little about me...
I don't have extensive canoeing experience but have owned a couple of fiberglass models and have been on the water all my life in canoes, skiffs, punts ect..
I spend quite a bit of time in the bush, fishing, hunting/trapping, trekking, snowshoeing, camping. My favorite times are the the days spent in the back woods on the small spring fed lakes fishing for speckles or splake.
I have all my own gear except a canoe at the moment. But I can easily buy one between now and then. In fact, I just priced out two Kevlar canoes today. Can pick them up at any time.
Well that's my resume'. Let me know...
Cheers Chris

We're set to go!

Just wanted to say that trip that Chris has planed for is official, and that I have been lucky enough to be chosen as his canoe partner.
We've exchanged a few emails and spoke on the phone but still have a lot more to discuss as afar as gear/ food ect, but there is lots of time left for that.
As you can see it's kind of a loop within a loop, with some excellent lake and river choices to fish speckles. Some of this area is fairly new to Chris but all of it is new to me, and I can't wait to get going on this.
We're leaving on the 5th of May and coming out on the 17th. This should be a great trip and I'm very much looking forward to it!
Cheers

I'd be interested in what you can tell me about the Hayes L part of the trip specifically since I haven't been there yet (Though I want to!)
