I was just about to book rumley lake but the lady said she could not find it, is there any chance it has changed names?
also if we are doing that small loop what lake would be best to start at? mole or ryegrass
also does anyone have any pics of the rumley camp site or the lake itself

I'm not sure about the Preston fire tower, but it might make for a fun trek. Apparently that's the highest point in southern Ontario. It is a 160m climb though... even if it's not standing it might simply have been pulled down and left to rot, so it'd still be of interest. If you do make it there, I'd love to see some pics.

Edge, I'm not sure I understand what your plan is for a "loop".
You wrote: also if we are doing that small loop what lake would be best to start at? mole or ryegrass
If you are camped on Rumley, a loop from there through Godda to Mole, McCarthy Creek, Booth, Ryegrass, back to Rumley would be a day-trip, I would think. (Same goes if you are camped on Booth.)
Tom Yates' TR from 1996 ("the lightning trip"):
Only four of us decide to take the day trip to the McCarthy Creek area. We had decided to do a circle route from Booth to Ryegrass to Rumley to Godda to Mole to McCarthy Creek and home. With near empty canoes it was a breeze. The portages were marked as not maintained but they were fine. We were certainly glad we chose the direction that we did because a lot of the portages were downhill. I wish I could say it was because of extensive study of a topo, but it was dumb luck!

Hi Edge,
Barbara is correct, it can be done as a daytrip. Or an easy loop.
I did a daytrip to Godda, via McCarthy creek, from our campsite, near the narrows on Booth Lake, and I wasn't even trying.
I left our campsite around 10am-ish, and paddling solo in an empty canoe, I went thru McCarthy Creek, Mole Lake and Godda Lake...arriving at 1:30pm....easy.

ok thanks,
we are now going to stay on Godda and maybe do a day trip up to tatler
Markus, do you have any pics or info on Godda lake?
or the fire tower? have you seen it? I have asked this question before but I just cant figure out why there is no info on these lakes, Godda seems like the perfect place to spend a couple of nights fishing there. is there something that I am missing?

It's probably a combination of the fact that Booth is so popular and easy to get to, and the fact that the area you're looking at has a lot of "low maintenance" portages and campsites. People, for the majority, seem to be put off by the appearance of the black lines and triangles.
They aren't big lakes, and there's only so much day-tripping to be done from that area.
I know I've read of someone doing a trip down through Mole to Raja to Bailey to Boot (and back), but for the life of me, I can't find it. Sorry.
Most people would prefer to stay on Booth and do day-trips, I bet. It's a shorter trip to Tattler, for sure, without the portages, to do the day-trip from a basecamp on Booth.
Just think of it this way...you are going to be an explorer. Sometimes it's more fun to find out about a place on your own, rather than going in with every bit of information about every aspect of the experience. At some point, I wonder what the point of going somewhere is if you know everything about it, and have seen tons of photos of it before you leave the house.
There's only 2 campsites on Godda, and it's not a big lake...won't take long to check them both out.
Rumored to be moose habitat at the south end of McCarthy creek.

let me explain the situation a little.
I am going with a few people that have never been in the park, so I want them to get the full experience but make sure that it is easy enough for there first time
I also want it to be in a somewhat quiet area where we are not going to see many canoes passing, that is the reason I have chose the low maintenance portage.
I am hoping they will enjoy it enough to keep coming back year after year

Hi Edge,
I should mention that going into Godda from Mole, is uphill. With full packs and canoes, you're friends might not like you too much.
Just be sure to mention the hill as you're climbing around and up it, not before. And if your friends start to whine a little, tell them there is a beautiful crystal clear lake on the other-side with no one on it. Besides, that hill is just a bump in the road(if ya will) compared to other hills in The Park, and I've yet to see them all!
Here are some links to past posts and pictures(Yes Barb!) of the area.
