It's been a few years, but it was a typical washboard road last time I was down it. If you're not used to driving on those, then yes, it is kind of bad. There are groves that, if you can find them, significantly reduce the rattle, but if you slip out of those groves, you're in for quite a shaking.

The road is only about 25 miles or so, (40 k if you are a homme du Nord) but it takes over an hour to get to Brent. Other then the condition, though, it's a nice road. I've seen moose and bear on it. One word for the continued mental sanity of all drivers. If some one comes up behind you, and they are going fast, let them safely pass.

Haven't been to the crater, but I've heard it is neat.

I haven't been down that road since 1990, but I've heard others recently state (in the forum I believe) that the road is much improved over previous years. Maybe they just lucked out and hit the road a day after the grader been down her, I'm not sure.

You can always contact ALgonquin outfitters for a heads-up on road conditions to their Brent location. Also there's a bit on Brent road on this link, 1/2 down the page. http://www.algonquinoutfitters.com/about_find.html

It's got fewer potholes than the roads in Detroit. I think they grade the road to Brent once or twice a summer also, but regardless you'll be fine if your car's shocks are in decent health. Cedar is a great launching point for the Park's north interior, and well worth a few bumps.

Brent Road

Personally I haven't been down the Brent Road this season yet. I'll ask Jake about it next time I see Jake.

Road conditions, I find are all based on what you expect from a road. I have a Jeep SUV and I've been down roads that barely deserve the name road. If you expect a smooth drive down the Brent road then your going to be disappointed. If you want to drive 80km down the Brent road, unless your a professional rally driver your probably going to end up off the road.

So take it slow, drive safe, it's not a race and any truck or even car with fair ground clearance will easily make it down the Brent road. I always tell people to give themselves up to an hour to travel from HWY#17 to Brent. It can be done in under that time but if you keep your eyes open you just might want to stop and watch a moose or even stop at the Brent Crater.

You no longer require a 4WD truck to get down the Brent road as was required the very first visit I ever made to Brent.

Drive safe.

Randy is bang on. I actually didn't see any real potholes last year when i went...lots of bumps but no major potholes. The road has lots of loose gravel and dirt, it twists and winds, goes up and down, and is often tilted. Travel slow and you'll have no problem. It took us at least one hour to drive this road. Travel at that rate and you should be fine...hurry at your peril.

Been to Brent many a time. Early spring in ( Apr/May)
has possible problems (wash outs and ruts )

But we have always done it safely and with a car

Slow and easy when required is the clue.
Cedar will still be here so whats the rush happy.gif

Plan on an hour for the trip. We did it at night one time and it
took close to 2 hours but we had some real fanyastic moose
meetings on the way in and as we were driving slow
we had no problems.

Its bumpy, but not that bad though. The speed limit is posted as 40Km/hr and that's as fast as you can go safely. It takes an hour to get to Cedar from the Highway.

I take my car down brent road 5 times a year. Yeah it can get rough but no worst then the first 18 kms on barron canyons access, but if you drive for the conditions a 12 yr old could drive it.
