My brother and I decided to do a day trip to Ryan Lake this past Saturday. We arrived at the lake early and fished most of the day. We stopped at noon for a shore lunch at one of the empty campsites. We set up a tarp and started a fire. We sat under that tarp for atleast 4 hours feeding the fire and hoping the heavy downpour would atleast slow down a bit. It did not. At about 5 pm we decided to fish in the pouring rain ( we were not disappointed) before packing up and heading for home. By the time we got back to the van and loaded up it was around 8:30 pm. Just as we were about to start the van a truck pulled up. It was the guy from the office. He informed us that the road was washed out and his friends Ford focus was badly stuck. We went for a ride to see for ourselves. Where there was a culvert there was now a roaring creek crossing the road. The young fellow in the focus said the road just dissapeared beneath him. The twp showed up shortly after and said there was nothing they could do until Sunday morning. They procedded to set up barracades on both sides of the wash out closing the road and then left.
My brother and I spent the night in the permit office along with Brian, the park employee , and his four friends. The young men are from the nearby town of Madawaska.
We got up early the next morning and my brother and I decided it was time to go home. We borrowed a shovel and drove to the wash out. The water had subsided and we were faced with a hole about 3 feet deep and 10 feet long.
We threw in large boulders and huge logs and buried everything. just as we were about to leave along came the grader. He dropped his blade and packed every thing down. He informed us that there was another bad spot further down but we should be able to get through, and we did.
I would like to say thank-you again to Brian at the permit office for his kindness and generosity.

Our group must have just missed it. We left access point 17 at 4:45pm on Sat. There were two minor washouts but we managed to pass. It was a long, heavy rain so I could see how it could happen.
