While most of our canoe-trips are done in Algonquin, there are a few places outside the Park (ie non-operating park/crown land) that have become regular tripping destinations for us (spring trips especially). Why you ask? The trout-fishing is better and you are less likely to be disappointed by stumbling upon fishing groups that have cheated their way into the interior after pushing hard for a day or two. We love to fish but I wouldnt consider ourselves fishermen (likely as a result of our success rate

). Seriously, majority of the fish that were caught were released (I only kept 2 out of 30+). Ill let the pics tell you the story.
The trip didnt start off so well. Following the first portage, we encountered 3inch of crystallized (ie not solid) ice. Some hatchet work was necessary to break through about 20ft of ice located in a shaded, north-facing shoreline.
After the 2nd portage is the same story. This time, we had about 40ft of ice to break through.
Lamb chops a grillin.
Enjoying the camp fire.
A nice splake that was only kept long enough for a photo ops.
One of a two splakes kept for a dinner (smaller ones are tastier).
Campfire 2.
This pool was full of gigantic specks

Night 3
One of the two most breath-taking portages along this route (actually, in all of the routes we've tripped in Ontario).
