In the summer we will be camping on lake louisa on the last day of our loop. We are a group of 6 people and we use one large tent and one smaller one so we hope to find campsites that are fairly large. Are there any campsited on the east end of Lake Louisa that you know of that are nice and big? We're hoping for the east side so that the next morning we don't have to paddle to far before tackling that 3km portage back to rock lake. I would love any input on which campsite you recomend and any details about the campsite that you can remember. Thanks for the help.

sites

All the island sites and most of the main land sites are excellent

If you opt not for an island .. then pick a site fordesired morning
or evening sun... i prefer the morning sun if one can not have both

My favorite site is far down the lake. I believe the last
on the left before the last bay on the left

I can send a map later but presently on dialup and its too slow
to do that with being stressed and I don't stress myself
needlessly at my cottage!!

The spot I mentioned gets great sun, has great shore fishing,
lots of flat terrain and a swimming rock on site.
It is basically on a point of the bay and rather easy to day trip to
lakes of the portages nearby if you are a trout fishing person
or just want some great scenery and solitude for some days

Louisa Campsite

One of the southern shore campsites was fairly large and raised up above the water level. We've always camped towards the west on one of the island spots but one year we took a day trip down the lake and carried over to Rock just for lunch. On the return to our camp we stopped for a break at one of the sites on the left or south shore and have always felt if we had a group this would be a great site, especially if heading in the direction you indicate.

I believe this would be one of the two sites on the points north of the "Mil" in the Mildred Lake label.

My personal fav. Lake. I love the 3rd campsite West of the portage to Rock Lake. Its on the North shore. The site is on a point and some great swimming around. Some sand beach and rocks to jump off. A nice bay to the West is where a cow came out seveal times to eat during my stay. Site near by if you have a large group. Bad if you want privacy though.

cheers

Lousia

Lousia is, by far, one of my favorite lakes in the park. I also love the island on the far west end of the lake.

Here are some photos from a trip we did there a few years back.

We are hoping to take Bryan's boss and his family there this summer. They are from Germany and have never been on a canoe trip before. They've done wilderness backpacking though so I'm pretty comfortable with their outdoorsy abilities.

We camped on the island centraly located in the lake with two sites on it. We were fortunate to have it to our selves (a bonus when traveling with a dog). The site on the west shore was spacious with great benches and fire pit as well as good rocks for swimming.
BTW great pics on that trip log.

For a group of six I would concur with Mike B.'s choice of campsite. I've stayed there before with a large group
and I would classify it as A+.
And there are many other very nice sites on Louisa.
