Chained Up Canoes At Access Points

I've seen like ten canoes chained up together at a couple of access points. Rain L for sure. What's the deal with these? Are they rental canoes that you pay at the store and they give you a key to the padlock or something?

I'm pretty sure that the canoes belong to Canoe Algonquin in Kearney, I'm not sure how their rental system works tho.

Yes, those are the rental canoes. They usually have the company's sticker on them.

It's been a long since we've rented a canoe. We usually transported it from the store ourselves, so we never needed a key.

I've rented canoes like this. It's a handy way to manage pickups and returns. I don't believe they leave them there constantly, it's just a good way to reduce the number of trips the outfitter has to make to pick up and drop off boats.

Add a rental guy showing up on a motorcycle to 'deliver' your canoe from the chained pile would be a great environmental awareness ad. wink.gif

So am I mistaken in the assumption that this system is akin to a canoe vending machine?

Maybe when I saw a bunch of canoes chained together it was for one group.

Eeee, Guncho.

LOL

Call Canoe Algonquin, ask them how it works.

(Were there some aluminum boats and canoes at Rain Lake, too? Usually are a couple there.)

We were at the Magnetawan access point one time when the truck came in to deliver a load of canoes. All nice and shiny...not a scratch on them. Almost asked if he would like to take ours in trade. LOL

Algonquin Bound has the same method at Access #17.

This is what constitutes "delivery". The canoes aren't there for just one group, but for all their rental customers. It's easier than loading the canoe on vehicles for a lot of people.

Canoe Algonquin says if there were canoes left out there it was for one group. If you want a canoe delivered, it's $50.
