I was encouraged by a friend to post a triplog of my recent outing. i was fortunate enough to help out my old high school by chaperoning their Outdoor Education class in the Park. Unedited for spelling or grammatical errors (I'm tired!), you'll have to excuse any as you see them.

Enjoy!

Excellent trip report, Bryce.

I especially liked the part about taking the young tripper go fishing with you.

Hopefully, the young'uns you took to the Park will desire returning often...after learning some tricks about packing and gear. wink.gif

Fantastic!

Hey Bryce ....

As a teacher I have thought about taking kids to the park, and while not impossible have found getting an overseas European Trip easier to get approved then a "local" canoeing one! sad.gif Don't get me wrong, I love Europe, and enjoy taking kids from school there (this year we went to Greece) but I have always wanted to take some kids "north" in a canoe to experience some "real Canadiana."

Good for you!

Great log, it conveyed a lot of personal emotion! In it, you mention not always having someone to trip with. I have many trip plans for the sumer in the making, and am to always looking for a partner. Any interest? (For the record my undergraduate degree was a four year "honours" major in none other then mathematics, and my Masters was in Mathematics of Education. Sound remotely familiar?)

Again, great log!

Hey Jeff!

Thanks for the feedback (as well from Barbara).

It seems like someone is always trying to "axe" these outdoor ed programs. The liabilities are scary. This teacher keeps up with his certifications, as well as wilderness "rescue" courses of various forms. I wonder if that still makes much of a difference to the powers at will though.

Math too, eh? Glad i'm not the only nerd on the forum wink.gif

Ya, i'd love to pair up for a trip or two. My biggest weakness is not having my own car -- not much use for it living downtown toronto (as a student), but it really puts a damper on weekend plans. I've been meaning to take part in one of the AA meetings to finally meet you and others.

Nice trip log, Bryce. And this is coming from a history geek, not a math nerd wink.gif
Unfortunately, $$ seems to be the only factor with school administrators when it comes to programs, and as you stated, an outdoor ed program can be potentially a source of lawsuits.

Jeff P, I hope that someday we can sit around a fire in AP and compare US and Canadian educational systems. Maybe we can share some insights that help keep teachers going after those "bad" days.

Sounds great

Hey Bryce ... Hey Rory ...

I think it would be great to plan a trip some time soon.

I'm off for the summer starting June 26th and was hoping to do a few days in the park from the 26th till the 31st. I have a geocaching hunt along the Canoe Burnt Island route that I would like to try. Seeing as I have never been to either it seems like as good a reason as any to visit. (I know its the highway of Algonquin, but I still want to check it out.)

e-mail me if this is of any interest. Btw, Bryce, I used to live in downtown Toronto in Riverdale (ohhhh how I sometimes miss it) and know Toronto really well. Out of curiocity, what area are you in?

Jeff,
I haven't been to Canoe and Burnt Island in several years, and it looks like it will be a few more before I do. I am out of school as of yesterday, but I start back on the 23rd (summer school)until the end of July. At least I have August off! I'll be anticipating a nice trip report, though. Hope the weather and wildlife cooperate with you.
