Aaron Robichaud has submitted a trip-log "Algonquin Park Spring 2009 - My First Solo Trip May 15 18th, 2009" ... Kioshkowi Lake to Lauder Lake

http://www.algonquinadventures.com/triplogs/AaronRobichaud/index.htm

Aaron got hit with a couple of days of cold, wet weather. But his enthusiasm for Algonquin was undampened!

Very nice, Aaron. You were very descriptive, so that I almost felt I was there with you! Too bad the weather wasn't better for you. Good chance it will be for your August trip. Maybe I'll see you on Kiosk in August. When is your trip?

Thanks Barry for posting my trip log, and I hope everyone gets a good chuckle at my expense.

Rory - we have a trip planned to Kiosk mid August, but we need to change it for a wedding we're going to. I'm thinking of now mid September, perhaps the w/e after labour day.
Are you staying at the campground or are you venturing down one of the loops?

Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron,
Unless my plans change, I'll be starting my loop from Kiosk, and paddling by those drive-in sites on the way to Mink, etc. My last night will be on Kioshkokwi, somewhere close to Maple Creek. Either beginning or end would allow a little time to stop and chat, but only if you're around.

Awesome writeup

June 15 2009, 8:08 PM

Thanks Aaron

Fantastic write up of your epoch 2009 Solo and
mother nature , who tends to sometimes make
for an interesting trip

You've wetted my apettite and likely I will take up an
offer to solo in to meet some great AAers
after the 24th of June

P.S. I would not mind a cold ( well lets say cool) snap to put a
dent in the mosquitoes that I will likely encounter but first I'm
praying for a hot spell to lessen the blackflies and no see-ums

Best I dust off the test bug proof setup JIC my weather predictions
is off a tad. I was experimenting with this setup
last year for a similar trip that never happened sad.gif due to
logistics and a dire warning from Swede about the swarms of bugs!

Hi Aaron,

"It's only been 4 years" How cow!!! You have the patience of stone! I'd probably go postal if I had to wait 4 years for my next trip to Algonquin Park! happy.gif "Judy's" real name is Carman. She has been there for years, running the Kiosk office, and is very knowledgeable and helpful. That first time around I forgot to ask her permission to use her real name, since then I have, and have not gotten around to updating that particular triplog. Good to hear your first solo was a success, triple portaging sucks eh? Some nice photos and descriptions there. Figures 'out' day was beautiful huh? May can be a fickle month, good on you for toughing it out. I think soloists more than anyone else get that "why do i have to leave feeling?" The peace that you describe is overwhelming, and comforting, it's why soloing can be so popular. I can appreciate your safety factor on that your fist solo trip. Nice to see you didn't take any un-nessceary risks. An enjoyable read. Thanks fer sharing!
