Attaching Knife Clip to a PFD

Hey guys,

I just bought a new Extrasport PFD that does not have the square knife clip to attach a knife. I bought the spare ones to attach but there are no instructions and I figured I should ask before I screw it up.

How does one attach something to a PFD? I'm guessing glue, but what type won't damage the integrity of the life jacket? I don't think sewing is an option.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that the clip on my Salus PFD is sewn on. I'll try to remember to double check.

That would have come already on the PFD, but with a curved needle you should still be able to sew a clip on to your PFD.

Does the PFD in question have a pocket? You can certainly sew it on, or use a biner to anchor it to the PFD and a 30" lanyard to keep it from dropping overboard to Davy Jones Locker.

Nope, no pockets. I just bought the standard PFD, no frills or anything. Figured I'd rig it out as needed. My fried tried the Vynabond stuff you use to attach D rings to a boat, no dice. I'll figure something out.

On a side note, while trying out an Esquif Vertige X and pulling into an eddy turn, I found out the PFD floats rather well...

What about using Velcro?

Water is velcro's natural enemy, and when you yank your shank you want it out of the holster not the whole kit-&-kaboodle ripping off.

Talk to an outfitter or as Zeb has suggested before, a hockey equipment repair shop may have the right tools to attach it.
