14' Canoe, pricing help pls!

Hi,

We're looking for a canoe for puttering around in small lakes, not for tripping or hauling gear.

We came across this 14' (actually 13' 10") which looks to be in decent shape. The guy just dropped his price from $450 to $400. He doesn't know how much it weighs but I figure it's probably 60-65lbs or so?

The trouble is I really have no idea what canoes are worth.

Here's a link to the ad:http://tinyurl.com/kuh2g5

Can anybody help me figure out if this is the correct price range for such a canoe? Or if any members reading this are in the Peterborough area and have a canoe for sale pls let me know.

Thank you!

Jeff

As you may know, canoes vary pretty dramatically in price based on a number of factors, including the manufacturer, styling and the options on the boat. I have never heard of Saagh Industries and have never seen any of their products on the market. A google of Saagh Industries turns up nothing except the ad for this boat. Makes it really hard to put a market value on it.

Yes I found the same (nothing) when I searched for info on this canoe.

What I gather from the pictures is that it looks like a very basic fiberglass canoe with uncomfortable seats but in very good condition.

I don't know if I'd want to pay that much- It looks like a choppergun layup from the mid 70's which would make for a very heavy, brittle boat. There were a lot of little "garage" operations making them back then.
If you keep your eyes open, it shouldn't be that hard to find a good, used royalex or fiberglass canoe by a known manufacturer for that price range

I agree with 'griz. For $400 you can get better.

For a cottage canoe, these are pretty indestructable. Not the best design, but at $400 you can't be too choosy.

14' ft St Ignace Deal

June 23 2009, 10:09 PM

I hate to part with this tried and tested buddy
but if you are interested in a St Ignace thats a 14' that weighs about 68 lb
then its a steal at $200

Its now the 12'6" Old town pack or the 16' Scott Prospector.

In fact I'd rather sell the 16' as I have less memories with its ability
which is good but the 14' has seen me thru some tough conditions happy.gif
P.S. I'd be looking for between $450 and $500 for the prospector

If you wanted to see it or them , I could likely arrange a test drive
in AP later this summer.. Or if you are near Ottawa area then
I'd bring here home from the cottage or better still you could drop
into the Pontiac ( Johnson Lake -> Ladysmith, Quebec)

I've bought cars for less happy.gif
but if you are concerned about the obvious use marks
then we could discuss a price for either
