Hennessy Hammock question

I know this has been asked and brought up many times....but here I ask anyways....

I want a Hennessy Hammock. I am just confused on what model I should get.
I am at 6 feet and around 200lbs. I want light weight for packing.
I like the idea of no pad needed in warm weather and able to sleep anywhere some trees are around.

Should the Expedition Asym Model be comfortable in size for me? $139

Should I get the Explorer Ultraweight which is for over 6 footers but still light in weight. Is the extra cash ($219) worth it?

Sal, what model do you have? I recall yours on Booth Lake a few years ago.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike I have the cheaper one. I bought it as a "second" for around $100. You may want to ask if they are still selling seconds as a cheaper alternative.

I am a couple of inches shorter around the same weight. It is comfortable for me.

The weight difference is negligible.

I also don't use the tarp it came with but have substituted a sil nylon tarp from MEC. I have some thoughts on different rigging that I prefer.

We had it out the other day for a test drive and it still works great after 5 years.

I am thinking if a scout model for my son if we go this summer.

Let me know what you plan to do and also if they still have seconds.

I'm the same size as you (6' 200 lb....trying to get that down) and bought the standard Expedition ASYM. I really liked the sleep when I tried it for the first time in the Spring. I'm looking forward to my summer trip in August. There wasn't a ton of room inside, and I'm not sure I would want something significantly shorter....not that the ultra-lite is that much smaller.

My friend purchased the Back-packer Ultra-lite model. They've trimmed down everything in an effort to save weight: hammock is slightly shorter, the fabric is lighter weight, the support ropes are a smaller gauge, the tree-huggers are narrower. I don't plan on backpacking my hammock (not that I couldn't), so the small weight savings isn't worth the potential loss of durability to me.

Pretty sure the Exped Asym. model caps out around 6', so it won't be very roomy as indicated.

I would go for the Explorer Ultralight, you will want the extra room. No point if cramming yourself in if you don't have to.

I have that one and at 6'1" I have room to spare.

Well, the only Hennessey I have any comment on is the one I have -- the Safari Deluxe. Sure it's the big beast of the Hennessey line, but it's still smaller, more compact, and lighter in weight than any other tent I've ever used. I'm 6'4" and 270... and I have gobs of room in the Safari. It also came with the hex-fly which makes for a perfect shelter if needed -- detach the side lines of the hammock and swing it up over the ridge line and you have a large area sheltered by a peaked 'tarp'. Since the first time I used it, I can't imagine bringing anything else ... unless I had to. happy.gif

Thanks everyone for comments.
I am going to get the Explorer Ultralight for people over 6 feet.
To bad I did not get in on the offer last fall for 2nds...all well.
I could wait for this fall offers, but plan on a few trips this year by then.

cheers
Mike
