Map Tips

I am sure this is not a new idea, but I'll share anyway.
Now that we have Jeff's fabulous map, we can print the sections that we want (I do it in 8.5 X 11 sections) and then laminate the maps.
I go to Staples and they laminate for $1.49 per page. This makes your maps essentially waterproof and easy to refer to in the canoe. I use a key ring to put several together and then they can be tied to the outside of a pack.
Hope this helps someone!
(the maps are done for this years trip......thanks again Jeffrey!!!)

Agreed. I have always doe this in preparation for a trip. I tend to find 2 different maps, in whatever combination that worked best, place them back to back and get them laminated. One for each member of the group. They work very well and make nice souvenirs at the end of the trip.

Just make sure to secure them well...once laminated they might sink if they go in the drink!

I also laminate map sections of my planned route and surrounding areas but normally fold them to fit in my pocket...I've found that having them on my person is always best as it's not always a simple matter of getting access to a map pocket of the pack.

I just talked to my tripping partner today and he mentioned that it's not too long until we're heading back in to Algonquin. It's going to be a week in May of 2010 but I'm quite happy that he's excited already...it seems as if the bug has bitten him as well!
