Looking along the highway 60 for "hike in" camping. I have been all over the park by canoe, but the group I am with would like to hike in. I am not familiar with many sites, that can be accessed by trails. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The backpacking trails are quite nice and generally quiet. I have done the Western Uplands short loop several times and enjoyed it. You backpack your gear in and camp on a different lake each night depending on how much ground you want to cover. You can cover the loop or go in a ways and come back out. The sites are generally the same as 'canoe in' regarding amenities and many are nice and private. Particularly Maggie Lake and Maple Leaf are nice. It's been a few years since I hiked in there but I would do it again without hesitating. Western Uplands and Highland are both well regarded. Can't speak for any others.

There is information about the backpacking trails on the Algonquin website:

The text in red is a link to the backpacking map:

Ooops...

forgot to say that if you already have the Canoe Routes Map, the backpacking trails and campsites are on that, too.

And on Jeffrey's map, too, of course.

Only done part of one APP trail and that was over 10 years ago. For hiking I prefer Frontenac, North of Kingston. Not as private as APP, but for hiking it has a great network of trails & history to see.

Of course there are the hiking trails

But why not try:

1. Blackfox

2. Litt McCauley Lake

or

3. Pinetree

P.S. I am sure that campsites are easily reached
as to the legality of campsite use by hike in clients :-?

I am sure others can answer that concern (e.g. Barabara perhaps)
