Anyone interested in coming along??

So I was supposed to be in Algonquin as I write this. I was going to head in Wed morning and be there til Sunday, but alas the weather wasn't going to coorperate. Thunderstorms forescast for all 5 days in the area I was going to be. Not something I'd plan to make a trip in. So, that trip got cancelled.

A friend of mine is going up with her friends next week to the Magnetawan area of the park (Little Trout / Queer, etc) and I am planning to go up there as well to meet up with them at some point. I'll be going solo, as it stands right now, but would more than welcome a companion if anyone is interested. I know it's a bit short notice, but if anyone is interested in going canoeing/camping for a couple nights next week (say Wed/Thurs/Fri, or Thurs/Fri/Sat or whatnot) let me know! No experience necessary, no GEAR needed -- I have everything you'd ever need.

Anyone interested in coming along??

Heh J-Wolf if you're going into Little Trout, try the 2nd campsite on the north side of the lake (quite large and some interesting rock/log outcroppings). If you go to the very end of the lake (east end) there's a bit of a beach. Actually did see alot of small trout in the shallows there. Don't know much about Queer, we just walked the portage (there's not much of an elevation change along it from what I recollect). I'd consider going but I have to be at work that week since I'm on vacation the following week. Have a great time!

I guess one of the advantages of living nearby is that you can make or break plans on a whim. Part of the allure of traveling so far to get there is that you prepare for whatever nature may give you and deal with it. We've had a full week of rain with literally less than 15 minutes of sun and still had a tremendous time. We've also been lucky and had only a day or two of rain. If it was a chance of thunderstorms (30-60%) I'd be there and figure that I'll get more good weather than bad.

Of course, I'm writing this from the comfort of my air conditioned home!

As I mentioned in another thread, the trip THIS week was supposed to be taking my parents to the park (as we planned to do once a year). If it was only me, I would've gone without hesitation. They, on the other hand, being in their 60s and nervous about getting sick, etc. didn't want to.

That said,

...next week, anyone? lol

Hey J-Wolf, I currently have an eye infection, but if it clears, up in time, I'd be up to a sort venture into the park with you.

What is your route plan?

Let me know, as I am anxious to get back in my boat. happy.gif

Hey man!!
Your parents being in their sixties and worried?!
Bull!
I have friends in their 70's canoeing white water on very remote northern trips without a problem.
I know your parents are not canoeists, but don't sell them short!!

Otter Mel -- Excuse me? "Don't sell them short"?? My parents made their decision on their own. They chose not to go canoe tripping in forecasted bad weather, because they are worried about my mother getting sick -- since her cancer and subsequent treatment left her with a very weak immune system. Anything else you'd like to comment on?

Jeff P -- Hey guy! Long time no see! wink.gif I hope your eye clears up quickly... I've had one before, and it was the furthest thing from comfortable. :\ To answer your query tho, it would be Magnetawan, Hambone, Ralph Bice, Little Trout, Queer Lake. My friend is not really a canoeist, and she only gets to the park once a year with her boyfriend and their friends... they said they're aiming for Queer but if they don't quite make it, it may be Little Trout. I've never seen them paddle, so while we know we could reach Queer in a matter of hours, they might not. LOL .. so I was going to ask at the permit office if there was any room on Queer when I got there, if not, pick Little Trout or what have you. The plan was just to meet up with them a few times while still maintaining a trip of my own. If you'd like to come along, that would be awesome fun ... you know it would be. wink.gif

Count me in

July 5 2009, 2:15 AM

Ok sounds good, but i'D need the dates first (to get my kids covered as all.)

My eye is doing better, and either one of two things will happen 1 it clears up and I'm good to go mon/tues 2 I'm in the hospital. ..... I' aiming for 1:)

When would you like to go and when would we be back?  I'd raher us have our own sit to "retreate" to but one close by to visit as well.   As for transport of course I'll have my baby, and paddle for you (I just don't have an   Extra adult life jacket you could use.....unless I got one from my cottage on route) along with regular tent and gear.  Given that, do you thing single carries would be possible?  I ask for I did them recenty and well.... their great.  If you comfertsble sharing your cooking stuff, I'd gladely make room in the tent (it sleeps three). That would save us some carrying, especially since I no longer bring camp chaires.  Just a thought though, so no worries either way.

Let me know your dates asap.  As for texting my iPhone number is....

416-626-7181
Which does except texts.

Let me know the date, this sounds like it could be fun (for the record I prefer white over rose lolololl)

Looking forward to the trip and seeing you again buddy
