I was map gazing and found the big east river PP the river flows from Algonquin to Arrowhead and looks like it would be a great trip but I can't find any information on it.
Has any one done this river? if so any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Some of the AO folks went up it on their big circular trip (The name of their trip is escaping me.) Randy could probably pass on some info. Hap Wilson also wrote about it in his book "Canoeing and Hiking Wild Muskoka: An Eco-Adventure Guide".

I (believe) it has a bunch of whitewater (I don't have my resources at hand right now), so be prepared for that.

In terms of camping.. I believe the rules are the same as the ones for crown land camping. Basically, it's free for Canadians and the only limitation is you have to move at least 100m every 21 days (Again, going by memory).

There's a preview of the aforementioned book at:

http://www.amazon.com/Canoeing-Hiking-Wild-Muskoka-Eco-Adventure/dp/155046339X

If you're still interested after looking at the aforementioned content I can look up more info for you. Oh, and of course the access points are shown on my map as well as any portages.

I do it once a year from the Dyer's Memorial bridge in Huntsville to hwy 11 (Arrowhead). This section of the river is pretty tame and can be pretty shallow at times. Lot's of sandy beaches. Any camping you did on this section would probably be private property.

deja vu...look for Hap Wilson's "Canoeing and Hiking Wild Muskoka". Look for it in your local library, or at stores such as MEC or Sojourn in Barrie.

Hap outlines the rapids, the portages, the campsites, etc on pages 30 to 35. The hand-drawn maps are broken into 3 sections: Canoe Lake to Distress Lake, Distress to Williamsport Road bridge, and Williamsport Road bridge to Huntsville.
