I'll be able to post more details later but on Monday August 3rd I will be teaching a workshop at the East Beach Pavillion about the basics of wilderness cooking and how to be a packable gourmet without having to carry heavy food or a cooler. The times and pricing are to be determined but the proceeds go to the Friends of Algonquin.
On Tuesday August 4th I will be in the Visitors Centre having another book signing... so if you are in the area please pop by and say Hi.
It sounds great! I would love to be there (being the camp cook) but we are going to be in the interior at that very time! Hope you have a good turnout.

I was just speaking with Sophie and she had mentioned that we already had people signing up. I think it shocked her a little because I hadn't told her that I already started spreading the word... oops.
It will be great to see you there and to get a chance to meet you. We should meet up int he evening for some chatter around the campfire. We'll be staying at Kearney Lake.

Less than a week to go. I'm totally excited to be doing this with the Friends of Algonquin.... what I was wondering (for those of you that have already signed up)... do you have any food allergies?

No food alergies here
Well, a slight allergy to mango skins- evidently they contain the same toxic compound as poison ivy, or a form close to it. But as long as I am not handling the skins its all good. Yep, its a very unusual one.
Can't wait, I am really looking forward to the workshop. I already have the book and have tried out a few of the recipes. Can't wait to expand my knowledge more.

I'm going to allow a bit of time for questions too.... so if you have anything questions I am at your disposal. I'm going to include a few new recipes and elaborate on the planning end of things and such.
We are also going to have a surprise for those who stick around right until the end of things.

I just wanted to thank Laurie for putting on an absolutely fantastic Packable Gourmet workshop yesterday at Algonquin Park. The dips were super yummy and I learn't alot that I can't wait to apply to my next trip. Way to Go!! I highly recommend this workshop if she does one again
Also another thanks to Randy from Algonquin Outfitters for providing some wonderful door prizes for those who attended the workshop. It was wonderful that everyone who attended got to go home with something!

Thanks so much.... glad you had fun. I did too.
Yes, a HUGE thank you to Randy and Algonquin Outfitters!
I was speaking with Sophie and we are going to (most-likely) do this workshop next year as well as another one on a topic other than cooking. We hope to have dates and info by the new year so that there is a lot more notice this time around.
It was great fun and I learned some new things too. One of the ladies had the coolest thermos type beverage container that I think I might have to pick up next time I am at AO.
