We're planning to head up to Cedar, Catfish and Burntroot and the lakes in that area next week. I'm not sure of what tackle to bring, what can we expect to catch in that area? I know Catfish has bass, but are there pickerel anywhere around there?

Thanks!
Brandon

Seriously Catfish.. dozens and dozens of catfish.. thought about going for a swim before I noticed about a hundred catfish there. My daughter was hand feeding them.. they would come up and eat right out of her hand!

Fish Species

Hey Brandon,

I don't think there are smallies in Catfish lake, but I may be wrong as I haven't been up there in some time. There are smallies in Cedar lake though and Walleye, lakers and brookies too. But you won't find Walleye in Burntroot or Catfish - this species is only found in Cedar and south of there in the Petawawa R and a few lakes connected to Cedar north of her (e.g. Little Cedar, Laurel and Cauchon).
Burntroot Lake has very healthy populations of both lakers and brookies, some fairly large sized ones too. Otherwise the lakes 'around there' are populated by laker and/or brook trout. The Petawawa river sections connecting those lakes east of Cedar has brookies in the small riffles/pools/swifts, and you'll also catch fallfish through this watershed as well (both in the river and the lakes).

Catfish - are you referring to Bullheads or actual Channel Catfish? Both may feed out of your hands, lol, but you'll likely only find Catfish in those same waters where you'd find Walleye (see above), they're not in Catfish, Burntroot, etc. Bullhead on the otherhand are found almost everywhere in the park - rivers, creeks or lakes.
