AA Gathering

from IP address 24.150.92.75

I've been watching the forums with anticipation ... hoping for a mention of an upcoming AA Gathering ... my first was the Kingscote Lake weekend in August last year, followed by 3 more great meet-ups in 2009 so far. What say we try to plan something for later this month or September? My only weekend I can't make it up to APP would be labour day weekend, but I suspect not too many would plan a gathering on that busy weekend anyway.

C'mon, we need another meet-up before the season closer... happy.gif

Longshot...

August 6 2009, 11:00 AM

Hey, J-Wolf. If you or anyone else will be on Kioshkokwi Sunday Aug. 16th, you're welcome to join my crew. Likewise, anyone wanting to do a gathering the whole weekend, my vote is for Kiosk that weekend. Sorry I'm so inflexible, but my loop is already booked, I've already paid to alter it once, and we have a long drive to get to the Park. But I still would enjoy meeting some of you in person! I know my vote has very little weight, but compared to what you've received so far, I guess I'm in first place!

p.s. did anyone ready my trip log? Comments? Criticism? Was it that terrible? Please excuse the nervous rambling. In one week I'll be ending the dry spell by dipping my paddle into Cedar Lake. The phrase "can't hardly wait" is quite the understatement!

I'm hoping that there will be an AA gathering sometime this fall, as I'd like to attend - I haven't met anyone from here yet and would like to do so. My only problem is I don't have a canoe, so I'll either need to rent one (getting pricy), or hope it's a drive up spot, or pair up with someone who is going solo.

Hey Rory, I'll be at the Kiosk campground that weekend, we're checking in the 14th and sayting until the 16th. It's with the family so that's why were staying there - the wifey needs a running toilet.
So anyway feel free to stop by and say hi - we're staying at site # 12.

Later,
Aaron

Rory, et al,

I will go over your trip-log this weekend. To be honest I don't read trip-logs in the summer...much. I prefer to read them during the winter time.
There are about 10 or more that have been posted here on AA(in the last few months), and would love to read and comment on, but I have been very busy with other pursuits(trying to keep Barbara and others off my back this coming winter).

I think many other folks here have the same schedule more or less; less time in front of a computer, and more where we want to be: outdoors, or if you're lucky, in The Park.

Look forward to the read.

Markus, that makes complete sense to me. Since I am one who appreciates your trip-logs, I too will be anticipating a few this winter happy.gif

Aaron, that is definitely possible. I will do my best to find you guys on Sunday. We will be coming from Erables down Maple Creek to stay at Kioshkokwi that night. If the weather is good, we should be able to find a site in the early afternoon. Even if my buddies want to stay at camp, I will take the solo canoe and head for the campground. All this said, of course, with the understanding that stuff happens and the wind/weather may not cooperate. How late do you plan on staying Sunday the 16th?

Anyone in the vicinity of Tattler between Mon-Wed next week is welcome to stop in.. fresh cold spring water.. I would also be interested in a get together. Ideally before the end of the month.. alternatively in the fall if I can swing it though that is less likely. Am aiming to head into Pinetree for a few days likely the week of the 17th.

Perhaps those in the vicinity of MewsLake on 18-20 Sept for the star
gazing might want to gather and discuss further happy.gif

Here is the star gazing info from the Algonquin website under programs;

September 18 to 20, 2009
12th Annual Algonquin Adventure Star Party
at Mew Lake Campground beach
(at km 30.6) 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy, celebrating the significant contributions of astronomy to our society and culture. Join volunteers from the Toronto Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada as they view the Algonquin night sky. Telescopes are set up on the beach for a first-hand look.

Re: AA Gathering

Hi Rory,

Our check out day is Monday the 17th, so we're going to stay as late as possible.
We should be around all weekend, I will be renting a canoe for the weekend so if you'd like to meet up somewhere this also an option.

We'll be at site #12, with the family - wife, 3.5 yr old daughter (1st Algonquin experience), and our 2 dogs (Golden Doodles - big, but harmless). We are planning on just enjoying the views from the waterfront sites, so please feel free to stop by.

Here's my email address aaron.robichaud@hdsupply.com drop me a line if you want to make arrangements. Or to try and set a meet point.

The star gazing sounds interesting and the right time of year, I'm hoping to make a couple of fall trips, so I'll have to remember that when making plans.

Take care all,
Aaron

AA Mini-Gathering on!!

August 7 2009, 2:48 PM

Aaron, since I'd like to leave it open for anyone who will be around, I'll respond to you here. I'm glad to hear that you are staying until Monday; that will give me time to get a campsite on Kioshkokwi and not have to worry about getting to the Kiosk campground before you leave. We will be staying on one of the sites on the south shore of the lake, west side (probably). Who knows which will already be occupied, and which one we'll think is the best for us. I'll shoot for crossing the lake in the afternoon after the wind dies down, maybe around 6 or 7pm. Look for me coming in, or I'll ask around and find site #12. I may or may not have a buddy with me, depends on how tired the other two guys are that afternoon. It's likely that at least one of them will stay at our site and take a nap. If we get to Kioshkokwi too late, or the wind is too strong to cross the lake, we'll break camp real early on Monday and stop in at the campground on our way to Mink. It would be no problem to cross if the water is the typical morning sheet of glass.

We will Not be at Mews Campsite (Racoon)

August 7 2009, 9:28 PM

I made our online reservation today and there was "no room at the inn"
at the Mews Lake campsite for what my Buddy's wife calls
"roughing it" in a 24 ft trailer.

I guess if we had a larger trailer we could of
scooped up the last > 32ft site with electricity only.
( that's what Vonnie, my friends wife says is roughing it --> No water hookup)

Anyways, we plan to attend the star gazing ( weather permitting)
and as well we will be visiting the Visitor centre and various museums
between Friday pm and Monday pm ( 18-21 Sept 2009) along Hwy #60
and hopefully as well viewing spectacular fall colours those days.

BTW:
We can be found at campsite #88 at Lake of Two Rivers
(still roughing it), but at least my reservation for a
24' trailer was accepted online happy.gif

Last resort could of been Rock as it at least it has non-reservable sites !

Re: AA Gathering

August 9 2009, 7:06 PM

Hi guys,

Markus was right in that I was supposed to be on a canoe trip on the east side of the park.
However, for the second time this summer, our plans changed and we didn't make it.
(I just got back from a funeral in Edmonton - a death in the family.)
So now we're hoping to do a 3 night trip the first week of Sept. (Last chance for my wife, a teacher)

J-Wolf, I'm always eager to meet up with fellow AAers but this fall, even more so.
The Oct. 16-18 weekend is our traditional weekend after Thanksgiving get together. So let's plan on that.

Racoon, I'll see you at Mew Lake for the astronomy weekend. (Hope for clear skies!)

And I'll always be interested in joining people if other dates are decided on.

Stainless
