Hello,

Going to the east side of the park for the first time. My friend gave me some directions. Just wanted to see if this was the best way to get to Grand Lake from Oxtongue.

These are the directions:http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=109002403205322928279.00046e77b497eac229b43&ll=45.824014,-78.19931&spn=0.886181,1.912994&t=h&z=10

any help is appreciated

Cheers
EricS

The general directions look fine. I would avoid Station Hill Road at ALL costs, it's a goat path. Trust me, I took it and was a little concerned even though I had a full size pickup (not 4x4). Keep going over to Doran Road (#26), you won't lose any time even though it's a bit longer.

I'd check about going around the east side of Round Lake, we didn't so I can't tell you what the roads are like. We took the road at what's marked as Simpsons on Hwy 60 that heads up to Round Lake and took the longer way around the west side of the lake.

Hope that helps,
S.

Thanks Smedley!

It was all those side roads that I was concerned about. Thanks for the info.

The road in Simpsons that will take you north to Round Lake Road seems just as direct as those side roads around the East side of the lake. Whats that road called?

Simpson's Pit Road - good road, probably the best way to go.
Simpsons is just a T-junction on Hwy 60, no town there.
Hope for a clear day - the view northeast from Wilno is spectacular.

It will not take you more than 3 hours as the gravel road up to Grand Lake is very good, it is in better shape than the paved Barron Canyon Road.

The posted speed on the gravel part is 70, and you can even do 80 in the stretches...but do slow down in the curves, some are very sharp!!
